I think the naivety of the Greenpeace protesters is beyond belief. What did they seriously expect the Russians to do after storming one of their oil rigs? Well done Russia and it's just a shame that Sussex Police couldn't have adopted similar tactics when a load of unwashed, tree hugging, Guardian readers stormed the shale drilling site in Balcombe. I would have left them locked up for far longer than the Russians have done if I had been Police Commissioner - I must remember to stand in the next election! What ticket would you stand under the far right? No. The far right is a bit too left for me. Would have to be something off the scale.

If it's publicity that Greenpeace want and they do. Then this is it in spades. Even got you lot talking of it. Last time they had so many acres it was the Rainbow Warrior.
Ivan likes to show that he is all powerful but he is not stupid, I think in this case they will be home for Christmas. As to the cost of the boat? Cheap at the price for the worldwide publicity

Whatever the outward mechanics of of courts and such. It is the decision of Putin alone as to what happens.

He would have sent the Grangemouth workers back to work on day 1, arrested the anti-fracking protesters and then, for good measure, arrested Bob Crowe and Len McCluskey as well.

And he is ahead on points re Syria. And he is responsible for creating so many jobs in MI5\6, Human Rights organisations and countless workers in the arms industry. Truly a Twat of his time. I say that because the attitude to Snowdon is only to do with a swipe at USA. (I'm all for that) and same thing for Syria not because of what it looks like i.e. sanctuary for an individual\killings in Syria. That is nothing to him. Any life other than his is expendable.

I think Syria is an excellent example of what a fine diplomat and strategist Vladimir Putin is. Had it been left to Cameron , the French chap and a reluctant Obama we would be up to our necks yet again in something that has nothing to do with us. We would have screwed Syria up (even more than it is) like we did with Libya and Iraq, and within a few months every militia and Al Qaeda member going would have been there with their AK47's. As it is there is now the prospect of things calming down somewhat, chemical weapons have nearly been destroyed and no British lives lost. Well done Vladimir!

Putin only got in there due to a slip of the tongue by John Kerry. In answer to a question he said "air strikes could be averted if Syria turned over "every single bit" of its chemical weapons stockpiles within a week, but Syria "isn't about to do it and it can't be done."
The US were taken aback when Putin took that up. Still it was an excellent move, even if completely opportunistic, Alan.

Wasnt Putin a highly trained KGB killer? Good point. I wouldnt argue with him!
On the odd occasion in the early 90's I used to stay in a hotel in Central London where the Kirov Ballet used to stay. I used to stay up all night drinking Vodka with the little Ballet Dancers (they couldnt half shift it) and several of their KGB Minders. I wouldnt argue with them either. There was one called "The Fridge" and he really did have the build of a Fridge.
Sorry off topic. Carry on

In fact if it wasn't for the weather, then Russia sounds a good place to live. A strong leader, plentiful supplies of oil, anarchists and extremists from all political spectrums locked up. They seem to have a lot going for themselves.

George Bernard Shaw et al thought so too. They turned out to be slightly misguided, Alan.

If it is so good I wonder why all the rich Russians live in Chelsea Because if they go home they'll get their assets confiscated and then they'll be locked up - that should appeal to all the lefties in this country who believe that wealthy people should be similarly treated!!
