Just thought I would make a sticky about Terry's book "Dont treat the joke as a job" I know most of the regulars have probably read it but we get a lot of guests and casual members. If you have not read it then I urge you to download a copy. Its Brilliant. Best book I have read in ages. Informative but really funny as well. Synopsis Scott Redington's honest and often humorous account of his police life working in a violent and deprived suburb of London. He quickly questions his desire to become one of the Met's finest, describing his experiences as he comes to terms with the diverse situations he encounters. When he eventually transfers to a quiet rural beat he finds that although the pace of life may be slower, there will always be someone out to spoil his day; even protecting the Royal Family on their private estate isn't without it's moments.
Terry has been giving the profits to one of the police charities that help the families of injured or dead officers. I am making this a sticky. Link to Amazon below www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01601AZY8?*Version*=1&*entries*=0

Thanks Baz.
I was happy to buy it just to help the charity!
But it really is a great read, full of the sort of funny knockabout incidents that many of us recall from our working lives.

I love hearing stories from people who had interesting jobs. Some of 747's are a hoot as well. I cant recall anything really interesting from an IT career. Well nothing I would dare publish on a forum anyway.

I dunno, Baz - you have us in stitches with your gaffer tape and Velcro repairs an' stuff! Oh I forgot to tell you about that. It fell off the fecking wall! I dont think it maimed anyone though. I have three wifi access points to put in tomorrow and Tuesday on three separate sites. On two of them Im using a proper electrician to mount and fix the antennas but on one the velcro is coming out again. Im not daft though. Im using proper 3M stuff this time. Ill make em sign a disclaimer as Ive already told them I cant be trusted when it comes to mounting things (ooer). Its the same customer where the other one fell off as well. Well its their problem if they dont want to fork our for a proper sparky.

Well nothing I would dare publish on a forum anyway. The funny thing is that, as you're doing the job, you just get on with it and treat it all as 'normal' (like the nutty old lady who'd regularly come into the nick 'informing' us of the "grey helicopters" that had been over her garden again? WTF? The Station Officer would get his pile of papers and throw 'em up in the air, call the troops over the radio and generally make a big fuss - she loved all that and went away happy!). It's only later, when you look back on it all that you realise how 'not normal' it all was. Some people are very perceptive (like Terry) but others (like me) just sort of swan through life in a bit of a daze!

Or searching the armed robber's house for anything incriminating, but especially the handgun (or parts of it).
He's handcuffed in the hallway, his missus is screaming like a banshee at us, threatening us with all sorts and "hoping we all get cancer" (as London villains are won't to do) while I'm looking round the bedroom.
The big, mock-antique brass bed looks as though it could conceal a lot in those big, fat, brass plated tubes so I start to try to look.
One or two of the knobs pull off easily (too easily??) and I move the mattress a bit, but before I know it, the whole bloody bed end has collapsed! God Almighty, Mrs Armed Robber went ballistic! That's even more ballistic than she was before!
Ah well - nothing in, under or round the bed, so I left her to it - that'll teach 'em to buy a cheap crappy bed to hide money and guns in...

Mais naturellement. You'd be daft not to, otherwise anything you find could be inadmissible as evidence and you wouldn't want that, would you?

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Due to Barry's efforts yesterday I sold three books that evening which just goes to show how important publicity can be. I am terrible at self promotion as it all seems a bit egotistical even if the proceeds go to COPS.

You might need to ramp up the price a bit though when you get my invoice. When I start flogging my new album, expect the forums to be over run with threads about my wondrous talent as a narcissistic twat musician. Anyway, Im not really here. I am working flat out today. Well I say flat out. Im sat in an office pretending to work while waiting for the fecking sparky's to put a fecking 40 metre cable in which they have been trying to do for an age now.
