I only ever read or hear non Apple users slagging Apple products and their users, I seldom hear Apple users slagging Android phones or other tablets so I'm not convinced of any snob value. This thread and another on MHF has people slagging Apple products but with no concrete reasons for doing so Spot on.

I'm sure Macs don't come with all this crap - just a nice clean OS and fuck all else. I know what I want on my PC so have stripped the system back to it's roots and added what I need. No they don't come with all that crap they come with just about all the (Non MS!) software you could want. To set up a Mac you take it out of the box, plug it in and switch on. It will work and it will do almost everything you want it to with nothing else to buy UNLESS you really want some specialist application or (god forbid , can't live without MS Office ). That is the big mistake made when comparing Macs with PCs, Macs do not need £££££'s of software added before you can do ANYTHING. I have and use both and there really is no comparison, unless you really enjoy fiddling about to keep it running. I sort of agree about the software too, I do use a PC and am a heavy user of Excel but it's the tool provided by my employer. I've never been able to get to grips with the features of MS Word and even simple things like multi layer bullet points or paragraph numbering seems (to me anyway) extraordinarily complicated whereas I find Pages on my iPad a doddle

But that's just it, I do need some specialist applications several of which (a) are not available for Macs or (b) those which are would necessitate me buying another copy costing hundreds of pounds extra. Sure, I know I could run a Windoze emulator on a Mac and run my Windoze versions of those apps, but that's just too much hassle and it still leaves me with some apps which I like and use but which do not run on Macs. If I migrated to another OS, I'd use Linux, if only it was possible to use without all that 'run a terminal' crap and DOS type code which I hate (I didn't come to computing until 2004 so never had to use it). As for smartphones, what you (Kay) says may well be right, but I don';t have a smartphone, just a basic phone for calling emergency services. And when it comes to money, I'm afraid I have to watch my expenditure and justify every penny, so can't afford unnecessary extravagances, so I'm stuck with Windoze (or Linux) on computers and Android on a Tablet, I'm afraid, not like all you better off folks.

For anyone running an Android phone or tablet, here are some apps I've found on the Google Play store which might interest you - and, naturally, they're all FREE: Gas Now - cheapest fuel prices using official government figures. Intermarche Carburants - these should be included in above app, but this can be used as a stand-alone for those, like me, who use Intermarche's own bottled gas whilst in France (it's the cheapest I've found at around 20 euros for 10Kg) and it's also handy for pinpointing the shop itself. Macdonalds France - for free wifi spots (for those who don't have Autoroute Express with Addie's 130K POIs) Flunch - for free wifi spots Wifi France - ditto above All Motorhome Parkings - from Campercontact, a trial version of their database. Pro-mobil - the German MH club free app for places to stop overnight Lidl - find their stores. Via Michelin - route planner And there's a lot more to find on Google. Liam Thanks. I tried WiFi France and there were very few. I thought most Mairies had one. Geoff

Geoff Geoff, I've never found too many Mairies with weefee (even using Inssider on my laptop and a wifi booster aerial), but more tourist information offices (yes, I know that the mairie is probably paying for that) but it might come up as a different name on the list.

blimey indeed! and following on from my comment about having bought a new PC for home, it came from Currys/PCWorld of all places. having compared lots of different PCs from direct suppliers like Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Asus etc the one that fitted our needs best was a Lenovo from Curry's - plus I could collect locally rather than wait on delivery. BUT - if there is one good reason for buying a Mac, it's that purchase. The PC came with so much fucking bloatware that it's taken me a good few hours getting rid of all the crap that a) I don't want, b) I don't need, and c) I wouldn't touch with a bargepole (McAfee security for one). I'm sure Macs don't come with all this crap - just a nice clean OS and fuck all else. I know what I want on my PC so have stripped the system back to it's roots and added what I need. Have you ever considered building your own? You put in and put on only what you want and it's quite satisfying to know that it's exactly the spec you want. It's easy to do, I've built a few although not for about 7 years now. I don't know if you saw my recent post about this on MHF? But there was one reply with a link to someone else's self build and I'm tempted to have another go Fair enough for a desktop but not so easy for a laptop, I believe, and I don't want to lug a desktop around in my MH (where even a lappie can be too big).

The big difference is that Mac users (at least all the ones I've ever met) criticise Windoze AFTER having been users. Every Mac criticiser, No that's wrong, not criticisers more "decriers" (they can never just criticise they must also denigrate the Mac user's "gullibility" for "falling for the hype") I've ever met has never used one for any length of time, if at all. You say the PC is more popular - but that is 'cos most early adopters were corporate purchasers and users weren't given a choice. Then later when buying their own they went for the devil they knew - software was so much easier to install if you had already done it at work. Just like so many people I know who bought the same sort of printer as they used in the office - that made getting new cartridges so much easier as well. I cannot recall anyone I know who has ever gone back to a PC after buying a Mac, if any have I can count them on much less than one hand. As for specialist software ANYTHING" can be run on a modern INTEL based Mac that can be run on an Intel based PC. As for Unix Mac OS is Unix, or at least has it's roots firmly in Unix. www.wired.com/2013/08/jordan-hubbard/

I understood it was just a "dual boot" arrangement NOT an emulator as such. Apple apparently provide the software in Mac OS to allow booting to certain versions of Windows on certain Macs. (I had mistaken thought it was ALL Intel macs) www.everymac.com/mac-answers/windows-on-mac-faq/windows-xp-vista-7-32-bit-64-bit-boot-camp-support-intel-macs.htmlI am no expert as there is no PC specific software I have ever felt the need to use and in any case I still use both platforms, so have no need for cross platform usage. I do know that an emulator used to be necessary when Macs used Motorola chips.
