I'm not whingeing, mate, I was simply trying to offer some comfort to another human being who seemed a little down. As far as I'm concerned, Christmas and all that it entails for others is their problem, not mine. I simply try to live every day to its fullest and try to appreciate that any one moment is no more valid than another and all of them are existentially wonderful. No-one has to live an inauthentic life, but most choose to do so. Saying that is not whingeing and recognising it enables one to experience true freedom.

It's OK to be pissed off at times Barry. And it's better to have a rant on here than it is to take it out on those around you. I feel I know exactly what goes on with you at this time of year. It's just pisses me off deeply for no really good reason that I can put my finger on. I think part of it at least is daylight deprivation, SAD`; www.sada.org.uk I do much better in Spain than I did in the UK because although the days are short they are mostly warm and sunny enough to be outside. I imagine that if Christmas fell in mid summer I could cope a lot better with it. Alan.

What a bunch of whingers, get a grip it's Crimble in a few days, just go with the flow, life could be much worse than it is, I too do not really care for Crimble, but it happens every year, you know like snow and bad weather, just get on with it, if you change your attitude you might actually enjoy yourselves. Ooooooooooh! Ok then!

I imagine that if Christmas fell in mid summer I could cope a lot better with it. Alan. If you live in Oz (I did), it does fall in mid-summer, but it's still dressed up with all the same crap as over here. The only way one can escape from all that shit is to change one's attitude to it so that it no longer bothers one. Christmas is simply a day which people invest with a lot of make-believe and hokum but in reality it is no different from any other day.

I agree, but I think the Christmas thing on top of miserable weather and short days add together to make this a hateful time of year.
Still, the sun is shining here today and it's warm enough so I am off out, Alan.

I had a bit of a wobble and a rant. I feel better now although I am sat in tescos car park for what seems like a lifetime! What is she doing in there FFS!
Hopefully in a couple of hours we will be parked up, warm and ill cheer up a bit.
All the best everyone. Normal service will be resumed shortly!

I arrived at the tip of Cornwall at 3 o'clock, the Atlantic looks a bit choppy (understatement) and the big windgens I passed were churning out the watts.
Just gonna charge my glass and raise it to all you silly buggers. wonder if Barry has arrived and settled in yet. Wonder if he's broken anything yet?
Cheers, all, Geoff.

Yep we arrived. Stopped at Northallerton at the best Cheese shop in the north. That cheered me up and apart from Mrs D getting stuck in Tescos for an age at Thirsk we arrived in one piece. Yes I have managed to break the fridge. It wont light on gas. Its done it before. Probably jet needs cleaning. Doesnt matter now anyhow as we have hooked up. Wont be moving the van until January now. Snug as anything in here but I gather there is a hurricane on the way so that should be fun. Even got the van looking Christmasy for Mrs D. Cheers everyone

I was just taking a few minutes to catch up on posts I missed (how do you lot find time to chat so much on these forums?) when I stumbled on this discourse in philosophy. Thanks, fellas, for such open thinking in public. Christmas has become a real chore over the years and yet we still go through the same old stuff - and for what? Swmbo and I had decided months ago to do a bunk and leave the kids and their own families to it but had to change plans yet again so still in wet and windy Cornwall. Life's tortuous path goes on.
