My heating broke down a couple of days ago. It's a gas powered10Kw Atwood furnace which blows hot air around the van. It's American since the van is.
It's not an overly complicated thing but I've never worked at one so had no real ideas. A look on youtube gave various suggestions all requiring parts.
So I emailed Duncan McKenzie at Star Spangled Spanner with a view to ordering what ever parts he suggested replacing and giving it a service/rebuild. Duncan has done a lot of work for us and supplied us with whatever we have needed. We are regular customers.
He rang me about 15 minutes ago to suggest a couple of checks before buying any parts. The fucking Mercans use two scotchlock type connectors in the wiring for these units and Duncan suggested that those give a lot of bother, eventually just failing and giving bad connections. That wasn't on Youtube. Took both off and replaced them with spade terminals and bingo, it's working. A five minute repair.
I'm posting this here because I can't post it on an RV forum as Duncan is plagued with people ringing just for advice and consequently has difficulty getting on with earning a living. He doesn't want publicity for being helpful.
But if any of you ever buy an RV, he is the man. He knows them inside out.
I'm happy and grateful.
Now I can go and post a vague thank you on an RV forum, Alan.

Good stuff. Well now you can see if you can fix my gas fire in the van. Carver 3000 I think in a 2000 case. Started playing up when away. Took ages to light and now wont light at all. Its one of these where you turn the knob which is connected to a stick / plunger rod that creates a spark. It appears to be arcing (arking?) at the base of the plunger as you can see the spark jumping across from the bottom of the rod to the side of the fire and not where the pilot light is which is behind a little glass window.
I reckon it needs a new Flux capacitor but its neither here nor there anyway as I cannot get to the van without falling over.

Call in and I'll have in bits in minutes, might even be be to fix it.
Shouldn't be hard to adjust the ignition or fit a new one.

Glad you got it going, bloody scotchlock on my H y m e r failed, it lets the Elektrobloc know the engine is running and runs the fridge and charges the LB's. The skinny little wire didn't fit tightly between the blades of the scotchlock and over time and with vibration it had worked loose. These bloody machine cost a fortune and to use such a shite cheap piece of crap to make such important connections is beyond me. Wamkers
I was lucky to find a bloke who knew about the fault and told me where to look and it to took a couple of minutes to repair and at no expense. Where would we be without these knowledgeable people who are happy to share the information for nothing.

I sorted out an Alde heating problem on the wildies this morning and helped another one in Spain with a knackered Calira charger.
They both think it's free as well. What a shock they are going to get.

Acturally, this is the one fucking place in Spain that the TNT driver can find. He's good lad, comes straight to the van with the parcels.
My mates who send the stuff are now using UBS, who are certainly faster and cheaper but they can't find their way round France. It's taken them three weeks to deliver a couple of keys to Fw's house. Pity the tosser who sent them didn't just put them in the post as I asked him too.

I probably could not have helped you Alan as I specialise at the top end of the market.
I also think Sam Neill carries it off on Peaky Blinders. My wifes family were very friendly with a lovely lady originally from Belfast called Betty Byrnes, an absolute Angel. I could never work out why she married the biggest male heap of shit ever to come out of Gateshead.
She had a very broad accent which my Brother in Law could take off brilliantly. We used to fall about laughing when the two of them had a conversation.

What, have you cancelled TNT then? No. I remembered 747 had his passport confiscated for Yorkshire and is banned. Dont think he is allowed south of the Wear anymore.
