No, not kidneys, you idiots, proper little gennies. Just bought a little used Honda EU10i ready for powering my private disco on South Uist next trip. Cracking little thing it is too, and I've made a custom canvas holdall for it in proper sailory fashion. Dayamn, that sounds proper gay, doesn't it? Oh well. Anyway, the question is this. It has a 12 volt output intended for direct connection to automotive batteries for charging. I've made up a lead with the right plug and all that jazz, and connected it up. With the genny running, I'm getting 18.6 volts approx across the battery terminals. I'm not happy with that, thinking a battery could boil. Clearly, I can use the EHU cable and just charge through the MH built-in charger so it's not a problem, but thought I'd run it past you cheps and see what your thoughts are. You do have thoughts, don't you? Occasionally?

They saw you coming Tugs, flogging you a duff bit of kit. Never mind, you can repair it, the parts are about £400 I believe. I have thought about it and it could be the voltage regulator is Donald Ducked. Search online and you might find something. I will invoice you for my medical expenses. I am always ill for a few days if I have a thought.

I think I'd stick with the built-in charger, Tugs, and just connect into the mains plug - let the van's electronics sort the batteries while you make use of the 240v for your mains-operated "intimate vibrator"/"laydee inflator"/"electric penis stimulator" or vibrating bed.... Don't forget to chain it to the chassis or Jim Baz Joe Brenda some toe rag could just walk off with it. It'd be "The ship's safe incident" all over again...

I don't need any of that stuff, Boggers, the inflatable llama keeps me well satisfied. Ta.

So let's get this right. You have a genny that is designed to power your 240v shit in the van with a hookup lead and at the same time charge your van as if your on hookup but your trying to invent another way of doing it that might blow up your battery?
Are you bord or summut?
That thing will not power my amp at our next meet anyway you tit

Might help him hit a proper note...or the ceiling. Win win for us all I think. With regards to the generator I think you are getting far to much power down the cable. Best thing is to get a narrower cable so less power can get down it or clip the leads further away from the terminals so not so many currants can stick to it. Hope that helps

Gives me an idea, Terry, I'll just tie some knots in the wire till the voltage comes down to about 14V. Brilliant, thanks matey.

I don't go to campsites except when I'm desperate for laundry.
I usually manage fine on solar, but want to do more winter travelling, so just adding a bit of back-up equipment.
No female taking up payload in my van. Apart from little Ellie, that is.
