American vehicles suffer from this problem a lot. Have done for years.
That's what the Yanks mean when they talk about a 'clusterfuck'!

Good one. My high pressure powered steering hose that the garage needed to fix our powered steering and I spent ages trying to located has the wrong ends on it and apparently you cannot get one with the right ends anywhere in the world anymore. I spent this morning picking it up and driving it to Pirtec on Teesside where they found a load of adaptors to make it fit but its now 3 inches longer and at a funny angle so I am just waiting to see if the garage can make it fit back in! If not Im goosed! Pain in the arse motorhomes when they go wrong. At least you have somebody looking after yours. Seems when mine goes tits up I have to source the parts myself, if they exist. Sorry to hear you're having problems with Sevel-built shit too. Though I don't understand why the proper spare part is still not available through Fiat or Peugeot (dunno which version of Sevel-shit you have). It's not as if your vehicle's ancient - 1996 - FFS. My old Merc was 1993 vintage, and superseded two model releases ago, but Merc still have spare parts for it.

Often struggle and end up scouring the internet or posting on the forums doing the garages work for them. Dont mind as it keeps their bill down but I just wonder what would happen if you were 1500 miles away in central Europe and were stuck for a bit. Actually scrap that they would probably find one no bother.

Update
Vans all sorted apparently! They managed to get the new pipe to fit with the Adapters from the place the Gnome found which I picked up today and its no longer groaning (The power steering).
Cheers for everyone who helped

One year my old Merc blew its radiator near La Roche Sur Yonne - on the Friday afternoon of the May Bank Holiday too. We limped into the Merc dealer there. He said he'd get a new rad delivered overnight and that we could camp on his forecourt. Next morning, Saturday, he fixed it. The complete bill for the new rad, new antiifreeze & labour was less than my Merc dealer in Cornwall could buy a new rad in from Merc UK, so he subsequently told me.

I have a march 2012 Bailey motorhome on a Peugeot 2.2 Boxer. First noticed a "oil in fuel warning" slight glow when on cruise control. This gradually got brighter over time. The instrument panel was replaced under warranty. Four months later and two warning lights are showing when cruise control is engaged! I have it booked in to the dealer for service and MoT in two weeks, watch this space.

Sorry to hear of your probs with Sevel-shit base vehicle but hope you get it resolved; do please let us know the outcome. EDIT: Apologies, forgot to add, "Welcome to Fruitcakes"!
