Fuck 'em, if that's the case. Plenty will be happy to insure you. I don't wanna do business with someone who doesn't wanna do business with me!!

Ah but, ah but , ah but, our requirements are somewhat out of the ordinary so due to what in many ways seem petty and often arbitrary limitations applied by insurers we find it rather difficult getting quotes.
Many insurers immediately baulk at NI post codes. Or full timing. Or extended trips into Europe. Or America or LHD vans. Or big petrol engines. Or towing trailers with cars on. Or not having a tracker. These are the things they seem to regard as indicators of risk.
Meanwhile they ignore that the van does very few miles, probably fewer than 3,000, in a year and may be driven perhaps fewer than 20 days in a year. They ignore that it has virtual 24 security year because we are full time. They ignore that because we are away in Europe such a lot it is much safer to drive a LHD van. They may have concerns that driving an LHD needs a bit of practice but if they asked they could find out that we have two LHD cars and are have been driving on the continent for years. I have no idea why they seem to see American vans as a bit exceptional or why they would care whether the engine is petrol or diesel, nor how big the engine is in what is virtually a small truck, not a racing car. Fitting a tracker, I doubt one in ten European car thieves could even release the handbrake on this van never mind drive it, and even if they could all you need to do is put out an alert for an American motor home since you're unlikely to see more than one a day no matter where you are in Europe, and the do look very distinctly American.
There seems to be a taboo about full timers, as though they are gypsies or some such, yet they ignore the fact that we retain our house at home and have it available should we need it.
Any way those are the reasons I was asking AIB for a quote.

Have they actually turned you down or is this hearsay? My vans over twenty years old which is why I switched from Safeguard to AIB in the first place as I thought they insured anything and tailored your insurance to your requirements. Ive always found them pretty helpful on the phone.

Turned me down on the phone Baz. I reckoned it was cobblers but there it is.
Have you any way of querying it?
I know they wrongly turned someone away before and it was resolved.

I did have a contact there. If he is still there I could forward him a link to this thread and / or maybe give him your mobile number. Up to you. Does seem a bit daft.
