Why do some people who go camping caravanning or motorhoming erect loads of windbreaks round their pitch then sit behind them so no one can see them ?
Always thought it was supposed to be a sociable kind of holiday or life .
1 van must have put up 10 or 12 windbreaks round their van.

Cos they are not fecking social thats for sure. Oh yeah, happy to wave at you from across six lanes of the M1 but once your on a site or an aire you can fuck right off! I often go bouncing over with my guitar and booze but they either quickly run inside or just pretend to be out. The best laughs and conversations I have had on tour have been with the Italians and the Germans to be honest and sometimes the French. The French I find very polite and friendly but they are never often up for a bit of Fruitcakery. I dont think it was always like that. I can remember touring in the UK with the lads in VWs and tents as teenagers and early twenties and everywhere we went we ended up with hordes of new friends. Perhaps its easier when your young. The funniest one was a really boiling hot weekend at Coniston Hall campsite in the Lakes. We had a barmy (and balmy) night at a barbecue outside this cracking pub, good music (hot chicks even) and we met a load of lads from Pontefract who had this massive tent. There was some kind of fracas in the night and the next morning the whole tent was in bits on the floor and bodies and legs sticking out everywhere.

Remember a very large marquee type tent some 'rockers' erected at Le Mans on year. Low moaning noises coming from the tent got me curios to go see. They were showing porn films at the top of the inside of the tent and all these leather clad rockers were lying flat on the grass trying to drink their pints on their backs in the dark.
Ray.

When we took the grandchildren away in the old vans we would roll out the awning and then stick up windbreaks. It kept the kids in, well gave them a demarcation boundary. I am basically anti social anyway and don't really so will go and park as far away from 'other people' as I can. I am never rude and will always speak or help out if there is a problem, of course I will always revise the above if they have alcohol.

We put up windbreaks to keep the dogs in rather than have them on a lead.

We used to put up windbreaks to hide from the wind. If it's windy nowadays, I stay indoors.

Sticking one of the poles down the back of their t-shirt helps.
