a proper motorhome thread!
we are going to a small music festival in North Wales August 22nd for three nights and from there we’re planning to head to Scotland for 5 days but would like to stop off somewhere for a couple of nights on the way. Thinking of the Lake District but the problem is it’s bank holiday Sunday/Monday. After 3 days of sex drugs and rock and roll at a festival we’ll enjoy a couple of nights peace and quiet so CL would be ideal, EHU a distinct advantage to get the opportunity to plug in straighteners to get rid of festival hair. Any recommendations? No Wildcamping, easy access from M6, doesn’t have to be in the Lake District but a nice view near water...?
ive checked and there are no suitable THSs

There are no CL sites I know of that are right by any lakes. I do know of one defunct Cl that is still available for those in the know but it's just water and waste as is have to check the street view to see if you would get your tag in. I would get it in because I would just demolish the hedge. It's at Watermlllock at the top end of Ullswater so really handy for M6. It's about a mile down the quiet road to the brackenrig inn that overlooks the lake above the marina where I had one of my boats. It's lovely but your gonna need bikes or good legs to get anywhere. I can provide details if your keen
Opposite side of the lake there is waterside campsite which IMO is the best waterside free for all and easy going location there is in the lakes but it will be busy. You will get on but hookup pitches are set back from the lake but your going to want to be set back anyway to get away from the brats and tents. Tuggers, Sandra and Albert and I had our meet there. There is a few other sites in that area and another small private Cl type site a bit further towards howtown.
Have a look at at Brothers water as there is a CL and a site combined there I think it might be called Sykes or summat like that (I'm on my phone at the moment so can't check easily). You will get less kids there and mainly walkers etc.
Keswick they are a few CLs towards Windermere about 3-4 miles south of Keswick but again not near any lakes.
Consider Bassenthwaite area to the north of Keswick. Couple of CL sites around there and a couple of small quiet sites. It's another place the plebs won't overrun and it's one of my old haunts from my youth. I got engaged at the Pheasant inn and if you want a Sunday lunch it's "the" place to go. You could rejoin the M6 by heading north east towards Carlisle from there.
When I get online proper in the morning I'll give it more thought. It's all on my doorstep and for years was my second home so anything you want to know just ask.
Sorry for any errors but typing all this on a shitty 3" screen is a PIA

Cheers Barry, quiet is fine and not walking distance of anywhere is fine too, I’ll have a look at your suggestions on Google ill see if I can get you the gps and contact details of the secret CL at watermillock. Tuggers with caravans get in so you might. I'll dig out the contact details as for all I know they may have closed it but it was still going unofficially last year

Never anywhere to stop, even just for a cuppa in the Lakes. Fuck 'em. Best you stop on the hard shoulder of the M6, put the bonnet up and settle down for the night!

You just have to go to the right places. Every fecker from the south especially heads directly to Windermere where you would be correct this time of year, its rammed. Get up to Crummock Water, Honister pass or even remote Wast Water and there are loads of quieter places and even wilding to be had. Even in August.
