The garage that done the services should have it on the system and be able to confirm the Fiat garage with dates ans mileage.

More good has happened today, first of all the boss suggested a crowd fund, but that became unnecessary within minutes because Alan then told me to PM him my bank details, home address and a copy of my passport and he will arrange for one of his Nigerian friends to send me 20 million dollars of the unclaimed funds left in the UN fund for Broken Down Fiats. he said I can trust him, so that settles the money then. I spoke to Matthias a professional car man who has fixed the Navajo body work, his partner does all the mechanics. He asked me to send the details of where the Navajo is and he will ring them next week to find out whats going on because he says the 20,000€ mentioned yesterday is ridiculous. Then I have made another friend who seems to know an awful lot of stuff about engine makes and the tricks the garages can get up to. He is going to guide me through the procedure, he has written an article about Toyota that I must read. I´m certainly having an education on breakdowns. Oh forgot, Gordon unfortunately does not have a record for the services, but as I have time Marion will look for the paper work for me and email a copy.

That's good, Mildew - things are progressing. As I suggested from the outset, you need a knowledgeable person working for you. Unfortunately you cannot trust some garages (I've worked in 'em!)

Its not all doom and gloom for me, on Tuesday I will be doggy sitting for a neighbour who´s garden backs on to Heike´s garden, today I met an 82 year old Irish lady from Galway who has invited me to afternoon tea on Wednesday, she has lived in Germany for 20 years and says she still thinks, writes and reads in English. I have said hello to more people today than I see in a week back home.
This afternoon, to surprise Heike, I cleaned windows and sills (she only said I should clean the window in my room if I wanted something to do) and swept the leaves from the front of the house making everything look clean and tidy while she was out for 2 hours walking with her friend, her face as she walked through the gate was my payment.
Motley however is beginning to annoy, poor little chap can´t help it, there is a bitch in season obviously and he wants out all the time and is crying to go out sometimes. If you doggy boys and girls read this would you say it late for him to be castrated, he is a very, very fit 10 year old? 3 of our dogs were castrated quite late in life, Shade because of his testicle cancer, the other 2 for medical reasons and they lived 3 to 4 years after. I will ask the vet here what he suggests, he was the first vet we took Motley to when we bought him 9 years ago because this is where we were when I found him on Heike computer, well he wasn't akshirley on it, but in it or on the internet anyway.
I have the house to myself tonight, they are at the caravan for the evening, it is important they should have some time without me.

Glad she was pleased with your cleaning Milly. Could have backfired, just sayin. Im not sure I would have been chuffed if someone had castrated me at ten years old but I know feck all about dogs. I used to jog around Galway Bay. Norralorra people know that (or probably believe it). Used to love Galway. Smashing place.

The estimate came this morning 13,244.00€ there are an awful lot of dichtung / seals or gaskets.
This is now being sent to fiat so keep your fingers and other bits crossed that fiat will cough up some of it at least.
5,523.55€ for überholter motor, google says thats reconditioned engine.

Jeeesaz! Dont commit yet, lets see what the chaps say on the forums and of course what Fiat say. Are you going to be able to find the missing service record?

It´s better than the 20,000€ he started with. Marion has been ill and not able to get over to the house yet. I have a few people on the case Barry, we will wait for fiat to respond and see what they have to say. I have emailed the estimate to a new acquaintance who has a few friends that know a bit more than the average man . He will now have a conference with his mates and I await their comments.

I had forgotten the 20k estimate. You maybe told me but why dont the garage have a record of the service?

It's the village garage, but I would have thought he would have a record on his computer, but he hasn't. I have a lot of help arriving from a few members elsewhere, nobody wants me to be overcharged or diddled.

They must have some kind of record unless you just handed over cash he pocketed it.

Important stuff normally gets paid through the bank, clever boy, I will have a look to see if I can find something, but I don´t know how far back to look, could take hours. Howsomever my helpers seems to think the part that has broken has nothing to do with a service.

If you paid by card then it should be easy to find that if you have online banking but also the garage "MUST" have a record also. If you paid cash and the garage never put it through their system your stuffed sadly.

If not, divide the average usage per year into the 20,000kms or so to work out when it should have been done, then go back one more year, and then work forward from there.
Alternatively get his bank account number, ring the bank and ask them to search all payments from you to that account - should be easy on their system.
As you know I posted on Facts the questions I thought the FIAT Dealer report should answer, and these answers, or lack of, need to be put to all your advisers before any decisions.
