I don't use heating unless the temp is well below zero. I do use the cheapo dehumidifiers but they never get full of water all Winter. On a mild sunny day I open all the rooflights and a couple of windows to air it out. I will do that today is it is a lovely day ... for a change. I had thought about having a run out in it but when we got back from the dog walk, some feckin' arsehole has parked his Audi opposite my driveway.

Try that in La Manche. We are 3" above sea level and after 4 weeks of torrential rain it kinda humid. Thats why I'm buggering off to the sun.

All our previous vans I have not bothered with any heating or dehumidification. This one however does tend to get very cold and we have had areas that seem to trap the air and the moisture. I have had a couple of pillows in the drop down bed go moldy after the winter. The van is supposed to be fully winterised but it has been colder inside than out on a couple of occasions. I put the heating on as the gas bottles are both full and it is on hook-up. We are away in it over Christmas for a couple of days so I don't want it to be cold and the fabrics to be damp. We are only going a few miles to our daughters so not too far for the van to travel but it will give us our own space and bathroom. Good chance to use the vans programmable timer for the heater and hot water, we will also have an electric radiator as MrsGB does not like to be cold.

We get afternoon Sun on the van and that makes a difference. I did find a small area of mould a couple of years ago but that was due to leaving the loose covers on which stopped any airflow in the gap behind the bench seats. Which reminds me to check this out as we have not stripped out the loose covers. It is 'ready to go' which means 2 dog cages set up and all seats covered to stop dog hairs being everywhere. Sadly the ready to go just means a trip to the beach with the dogs.

Vans on forecourts don't have any personal possessions or bedding and clothes that can go damp or mouldy.
You only need a bit of sun to raise the temp warming the air in the van, this then condensates onto cold surfaces when temp drops. Only way to avoid this is to have lots of ventilation.

Ventilation just lets cold, damp air in, that then condenses when the sun shines in the 'van...
Just use a fuckin' dehumidifier, tight gits!
