Was browsing around Aldi today whilst the missus was doing the weekly shop and noticed they had a carbon monoxide detector for sale at £11.99. Thought I'd grab it for the van as the one in there must be 5-6 years old. When we got home I was just about to take it out of the packaging when I noticed it said on the side--"Not to be used in Leisure Vehicles or Mobile Homes". No idea why but I took it back and they happily refunded the money. Any idea why that would be?

I've no idea?? Carbon Monoxide in a leisure vehicle is the same as Carbon Monoxide in the kitchen. The cubic capacity of the two is probably about the same too... Ask 'em.

Probably just covering their arses as its way more likely for someone to cop it in a caravan or motorhome than a house. Cant remember where I got ours but I got one last year which was good as the fridge kept setting it off.

I have no idea about it. Probably the detector has a loop hole that may not make it work well in a motorhome.

Maybe there is something different between natural gas and bottles. Here ya are only need to ask Google. Because caravans are a confined space, the potential for the build-up of deadly carbon monoxide gas is greater. ... If you have already fitted a CO detector, ensure that you carry out your pre-holiday safety checks.16 Mar 2012 www.safelincs.co.uk/blog/2012/03/16/co-alarms-in-caravans/

Basically ......
.... It is not suitable in motorhomes and caravans because most owners are thick saddos and will fit it upside down and forget to put a battery in.
Just open a window instead ..... wamkers.

The reason for the warning could be if a leisure battery is not vented to the outside the gasses given off by the battery in charging mode will set off a carbon monoxide alarm especially if the battery is getting on a bit. How do I know this . Well how do you think. 😱

Hi Milly. A few months go I had the problem of carbon monoxide alarm going off at odd times. Eventually cottoned on to the solar panel trying to charge a leisure battery that was failing and giving of slight gasses making it go off. The gas was bearly noticeable but the alarm was picking it up. Having been in the plumbiing/gas industry for 50 years I do have a good sense of smell so I thought I would have noticed this but the alarm proved better than me. Fitted a new battery problem solved. Mostly follow the jokes and fun section ( really miss Rogers input. ) but now and then browse the chit chat section. Saw that post and thought my experience might be helpful for others. John.

Well done you. I have a question, where are your leisure batteries situated, mine are under a flap outside the van, no way the fumes could get in unless maybe if the window immediately above was open so I wouldn´t know if that was happening would I? Burning the bloody van was enough to go on with, I don´t won´t to die because of battery fumes although I do have a smoke and a CM alarm. We all miss Roger very much, I thought of him this morning forget for what reason now.

My battery is right under me head in the rear lounge bed. Its a new one though. A posh AGM I bought off some bloke from Huddersfield on the wildies for fifty quid.
