collective wisdom advice please - if any of you lot can qualify for wisdom of course!
it looks increasingly likely that we are going to be able to sneak a month away in Autumn and are probably heading down to Spain and just seeing where we go - thinking of heading into Galicia down to Pontevedra (have a friend there) and then across the middle towards the Med and then back. all leisurely of course.
we've never done the ACSI thing - but looking at it, it maybe worthwhile to save a few bob on sites. we'll probably do some wilding as well, but a few sites to catch up on washing etc will help.
I can still get hold of a UK one for £13.50 so just wondering if it's worth the dosh.

No idea. (Just to confirm your thoughts on wisdom!)

No idea. (Just to confirm your thoughts on wisdom!) about as much use as a one-legged man in an arse kicking contest

Sorry I can't help either as we never use sites, but just so you know there are plenty of Aires and wild places in both Spain and France if they would suit you.

Well if you posted this on FUCTS then the answer will be a gleeful yes they are worth it! They are always banging on about how much money they have saved with them but I dont think they are as big a saving as you think. They are if you want all singing and dancing sites (Which I suspect most on here dont) and there in countries like Austria or Switzerland or the Med coast sites. But they are creeping up in price with the top wack being €18 and sometimes tax on top. We paid over €20 a night near Innsbruck and that was when the top level was €16. Highly likely you can get a municiple or aire with facilities for much less back end of the year.
We didnt have one last year and didnt go on a single site but as I said it can useful in countries where sites are expensive, aires are in short supply and wilding is difficult. Then again for just over a tenner! May be worth it.

You could always flog it to someone on FUCTS when you return for €20 or something Ive been considering a bit of Spain. Im thinking I might have a mosey on down to the Pyrenees and do Hautes Pyrenees in France but have been looking the other side of the mountains. Not found much to write home about though. All the interesting stuff seems to be on the French side. I wont be bothering with an ACSI book though. Last year our 3 months cost £46 for all services and camping.

there's not a lot on t'other side of t'Pyrenees - it's a lot drier than the French side and nowhere near as green, so doesn't have a great infrastructure as a result. there's some good canyoning on the Spanish side if you fancy a tumble down a river.
we plan to take in the Picos de Europa in Northern Spain - supposed to be fabulous - and then head to Galicia. we don't know that part of Spain

Looks spiffing! Didnt even know there was any big mountains around there. its only about 300 miles from where we would be in the Pyrenees so may consider it. If we go and its still an if it will be in the next couple of weeks or so but I wouldnt get down to Spain until late August I reckon.

I've had lots of people suggesting I get ACSI card but for me the math simply doesn't work, not when I'd be going for two weeks and using mostly (if not all) aires.
You'd need to stay at least 4 nights and save £4 each time for even a tiny saving

Unless you really want to be on a site its pointless in France because Aires and wilding are so easy. The only place I found it useful was the med coast in September where we used it at Frontignan Plage near Sete as the Aires were shite and expensive and the one site we used was actually ok. Lovely pool and the sea. We went to another one at Cap d' Agde and it was dire.

Well, at this point in time our trip this year may not be France but we would always be limited by annual leave so two weeks off work is the maximum trip length. Mind you, I tried to have a week off sick last week and failed, bloody Blackberry makes me too accessible. Two weeks will be a challenge!

Mind you, I tried to have a week off sick last week and failed, bloody Blackberry makes me too accessible. Two weeks will be a challenge! Turn it off!!!! I know easier said than done. Your a bit limited then really unless your really prepared to put your foot down. I nice trip for you would be across from Southampton to Cherbourg and around Normandy and Brittany. You could do the Dordogne in two weeks or across to the French Alps around Annecy or even Switzerland where ACSI is a good idea assuming your out of season. Black Forest and Mosel another option. I think I might start Fruitcakes Tours!

Have to be the tunnel because of doggy (And tesco clubcard freebie!). Our original plan was Dordogne but if we do still go to France it's likely to be Normandy/Brittany instead, we've got a friend near St Malo that we'd like to meet up with too.
