Terry, I see from your new van posting that you have a gas it system, would you recommend and is it an easy diy install ?

It's been very easy to fit(now fitted it two vans) and we are really pleased with it. I have the GasIt plus 13kg four hole bottles and the autochange regulator. I only got the size because they were secondhand, fairly new and only a couple of hundred quid delivered.
I have kept the refill port inside the locker as I didn't fancy cutting through the side panel as I knew we would be selling the van at some point and would most likely be removing it. The bottles last 3-4 weeks which is handy as we mostly park up off grid and go away for three months at a time. Certainly takes the pressure off as previously we were running on 15kg French bottles and having to replace one just before we crossed out of France, regardless of how full it was just to ensure that we would have enough for the trip.

Thanks for the info Terry. I got a Spanish refillable bottle and the filler adapters with the van but understand it is illegal to use in the UK.

I understand that if they have the 80% overfill protection, are fixed and have the attached refill nozzle then I don't see how they would differ from any other sort. When I go into the UK garage to fill up nobody ever checks to see what I've got.

I am puzzled why you find it hard to believe The gas is not part of the MOT for the van is it? Who would enforce the ban on Spanish bottles? Only you see whats inside the gas compartment, that is if the filler is on the body of the van. I can´t see why your Spanish gas bottles would be banned. Ours are English, German & Polish bottles are different as are most country´s I think. The Germans are quite stupid about a lot of things, but banning English bottles is not one of them. The whole idea of the refillable LPG gas is so you don´t need different bottles for every country, you just need the correct adaptor. We find it super, just fill up when we fill with diesel and in Poland its soooooo cheap. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Jan, the Spanish bottle is not banned in the UK, but I think that the refilling of it is not allowed in the UK. It is just a normal gas bottle with no safe way, as with Gas It or Gas low of filling it. As I am no expert of the filling of gas bottles it is something I would not like to get wrong.

Some gas bottles have a safety against overfilling (above about 80%) and some do not.
Only those fitted with the safety device are "refillable".
That's all you need to ascertain, Joe - they may be Spanish "refillable" bottles, in which case you're OK. But if you're uncertain, or know that they're not, then don't attempt it.
GasIt has an excellent reputation - I've only ever heard good things said about them.
