Our journey up the west side of Scotland was an amazing geographical treat despite the fact it rained for most of it. We sat in awe and amazement as we passed from the lowlands into the dramatic mountains and lochs of the highlands. We drove up the west side of Loch Lomand with the Trosach mountains majestically towering around us. Loch Lomand is the largest of the Scottish Lochs by area and is 36km (22.3 miles) in length but did seem much further. Alas every pull in there was on our side of the road had trees and bushes blocking the view of the loch so we didn’t get the opportunity to stop for a photo or two. Read more by clicking here

Pity you didn't notice that it was spelled 'Loch Lomond'! NOTE: there's lots of good free laybys on both sides of that road where you can overnight without problems - the best on is on the left, going North, and it is about 20' above the road, so you get good views of the loch (it's above Luss)..

Damn missed that one. May have missed others as was distracted by the view lol

We tend to stay away from the West coast at this time of year. You cannot move for bloody motorhomes.
It is nice and quiet early in the year and at the back end. We are due a return and might head up that way around October.

But what fun when going over the Bealach Na Ba you meet a convoy of Italian motorhomers travelling towards you and they have just driven past the nearest passing place! The Mam Ratigan Pass is almost as much fun but it's worth it to see the brochs in Glenelg.

Of course if the Heathens Scots vote for independence in September, it may be too volatile for a hoiday.

I think that the Scots should give the country back to the Picts. They were there first, after all. And that wasn't blue woad they painted themselves with, they were blue with bloody cold as it's freezing up there!
