The high tech machine that engraves the distinctive gravestones, the Blacksmiths who forge the swords in Bronze that grace the cross of remembrance, the carpenters that restore centuries old timbers, all of their work will be showcased.
The distinctive Portland stone headstones that mark the graves, from the Arctic Circle to the Namibian desert are all crafted here.
Bodies of the missing are still being recovered at the rate of one per week ! and behind closed doors, not on view to the public they are treated with respect and every effort made to identify them.
Artefacts recovered with the missing will also be on show to illustrate the work carried out.

WEDNESDAY 3 JULY
Burial service for two unknown soldiers at Salerno War Cemetery.
A burial service will be held for two unknown soldiers of unknown regiments at 9.30am at Salerno War Cemetery.
The remains of these two soldiers were found on the hill outside Salerno nicknamed by the British as “The Pimple”. The hill was the scene of ferocious fighting during September 1943. Despite extensive research by the UK’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre it has not been possible to identify the soldiers.
CWGC will install a headstone for each of their graves commemorating them as a soldier ‘Known unto God’, and care for their graves in perpetuity.
The service has been organised by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre and will be attended by Defence Staff, CWGC staff and local dignitaries. Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony.
FRIDAY 19 JULY
Commemoration of the Battle of Fromelles and rededication service for seven Australian Soldiers at Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery
On Friday 19 July 2019 at 6pm, on the 103rd Anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles, a headstone dedication ceremony will be conducted at the Commission’s Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery for seven newly identified Australian soldiers. The ceremony will be conducted by the Australian Army, with family of the recently identified soldiers and the local Fromelles community also playing a significant part.
The remains of 250 Australian and British soldiers recovered from mass graves in 2009 were reinterred in the new CWGC Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, with full military honours, in 2010. These seven soldiers who are being honoured in 2019 bring the number of soldiers identified by name to 166, leaving 84 still to be identified. Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony.
