Its been a year since the bus last had an outing. The poor thing has moved a few metres forwards and backwards since then but thats all. Today I went to clean him. Always a bigger job than anticipated. We have spiders and mice but are no longer need antibiotics before entering. Deconfinement tomorrow .... And we need to get the bus up the mountain for his service and MOT. He was booked for early November but that all went tits up. So we dont even plan to spend the night on the road...but I am prepared for zillions of French going shopping so will pack a bottle of wine and some fresh sheets for just in. Its quite exciting. Made me realise what we are missing. This covid thing hasnt really bothered us at all but we have had our liberties curbed like everyone. so a jaunt up the moutains is just what we need

There was me thinking you were off to somewhere exciting where no man has been before ( oh gawd they´ve got me at it now.)
Make sure the brakes are all right before coming down the mountain. enjoy your day.

Ours hasnt been far either. To Flamborough and back for just 17 nights (about 200 miles) and backwards and forwards a couple of times to Darlo and thats it.
Cant say its bothered me that much. Flamborough was shit and pointless going anywhere else by the time we got away, the weather was crap and everywhere was crammed I gather. A long Euro trip would be nice but it seems a long way off at the moment.

Good for you, Sal.
The wind's been taken out of my sails as far as "motorhoming" is concerned. Merely cleaning the thing had become too much of a chore and difficult for me personally, which ruined the whole experience. I decided I had to change the way I did "motorhoming".
Downsizing was obvious; staying at sites more often (I always wildcamped before); occasionally "B&B-ing"; finally, making the whole touring/driving experience more pleasurable. Hence our purchase of a Toyota Vellfire from Japan, taking out middle seats and converting it to a "Day van++". I hope our experiment works (for us) otherwise I could be buying another motorhome in 2022!!

I need to give ours a run out. With all this rain the brake discs will be rusting up. My main worry is 'pitting' on them causing an MOT failure. Six new discs plus labour will bring a tear to my eye.
If I take it out in the rain, or on wet roads, it is a lot of area to clean afterwards. It looks a bit scruffy already so I might just do it.

we have been juggling vehicles for the last 6 weeks. We have custody of a friends porsche for the winter ( which has lasted 18 months...) I have my mini which only gets used in summer....and we have not been driving the discovery during confinement. we decided to only drive a french plated car as foreigners will attract attention etc. so we have 4 vehicles plugged in to keep their batteries ok. but it never works. green light all on but batteries flat. drives us nuts. We have lied to the owner of the porsche as to how many outings hes had ( hope he hasnt noted the mileage but I gaurantee he did...) and when we get home to andorra we will need to ensure the Jimney is OK as he has sat still for 8 weeks too . FFS. First world problems.

I just disconnect the battery on Hank when its not in use. Always starts. I intend to run the scooter all winter as it took weeks to get the fecker going in the spring as there is some fuel temp sensor got bunged up or summat so it would only start and run once it got above about 19c with the sun on it. Mind you its been ok most of the year since then so perhaps the Scooter repair fairy's fixed it.

What you need to do, Jim, is slap on loads of waterproof grease on the discs... that will stop any rust, and then all your problems will be over.

Fools, probably needs a bit of Mollyslip.
I still haven´t done anything with the Sargent, I don´t imagine the readings can effect the actual batteries.

One of the main things to watch out for in winter is your indicator fluid freezing up.... I have been lambasted elsewhere for saying ( or indeed even thinking of ) this.. We just plug in, leave the heating on low etc. We are fully winterised so nothing will freeze. Even the indicator fluid so now the tight fisted brigade will have a right pop and tell me I shouldnt use my heating for actually heating a van as its expensive stuff and it may break. Jesus. I hope you lot are mad enough to understand my total idiocy for using something for its actual function.

Ive not even drained my van down yet and ill never heat the feckin thing over winter. I imagine the dealers that flog us them never bother. Anyway Hank is a proper motorhome, not one of your mamby pampered modern ones that needs a blanket and a fan heater on all winter. Pah!
