Had this satellite on van for 2 to 3 years ,got a good deal after old one failed, its always been a bit clunky or trouble finding signal but it always got there in the end, but yesterday couple of grindy noises and then nowt. Rang up place we got it in Cardiff and , no sir we don't repair or sell them anymore.great feckin service that after spending £1600 with you. His reply, well we can sell you a different one.like I'm going to spend £2000 now with an after sales like that. Bet it would cost loads to repair plus its germanyland made.postage won't be cheap.
Anyone one want a 15kg door stop cheap ?
Any recommends on finding a new one?
I'm tempted just to get a small portable dish as unless massive they don't pick up down into Spain, if we ever get to go to Spain again. (Cheers Boris you bastud)And here we can just use normal TV.

What make and model is it Cookie? Are you a member of any of the proper motorhome forums? The Wildies or Outandaboutlive seem to have lots of techy motorhomers. I imagine someone will be able to fix it. Thats feckin ridiculous though if its only three years old.
Our Camos Dome is 12 years old now nearly and its still going strong. I remember though the model before ours went obsolete because it could no longer pick up satellites and a lot of people were pissed off. Yours just sounds like some kind of mechanical failure.
I am not sure I would bother with another one now to be honest. Freeview in the UK is much easier to pick up and you can be out of the footprint in two days now if you head south or east in a hurry in Europe. I wonder if Brexit will make a difference as UK Sky no longer works abroad I gather after 1st Jan because of it. I suspect not though but the footprint has changed a couple of times already since we got ours and has just got smaller and smaller.
Tell us the model and make and ill have a search about.

I have used a Sky dish mounted on a photographers tripod in the past. If you want a rusty old dish you can have it free if you collect it.
I could set it up as quick as your slow auto seeking one did, as long as I could see the TV screen through the window to see the signal strength. We don't need it these days on this van and it is not worth carrying, except in special circumstances where reception is crap.

Cheers Barry Its a snipe pro. I was surprised when I got it off the roof how badly it had weathered, all the paint was coming off looks like it was just enamel over bare metal, no undercoat or primer. And under the cover all the grease had fallen off the cogs. No wonder it sounds like spanners. I reckon where I got it from had too many returned and gave up on them. But £1600 for it to only last under 3 years with minimal use is a piss take. Doubt you will find out owt, but if you do you're a 🌟

Exactly the same here with my Snipe, Cookie - the gears went kaput. It was excellent when working, and a fraction the price of others, but as you say, the finish wasn't up to being left out all weathers and the gearbox was inadequate. If I did a "satellite dish" again, I'd not fix it to the roof, but instead I'd keep it in the little suitcase it came in and put it up when needed, the same as Jim did with his.
This looks interesting... a Snipe-type dish, but without the gearbox complications...

These were the guys that fitted mine as well as doing some other stuff in the early days but I bet its ten years since I dealt with them. They were really good but their official website isnt working now, the facebook page is. Over in Clitheroe www.facebook.com/leisuretechservices/Might be worth giving them a call. Ill ask on OAL see if anyone has any ideas.

I bought a cheap suitcase one a couple of years ago. It was utter rubbish so be careful what you buy. Look at reviews for them first.

When you think about it then the Domes despite looking like a big white tit are maybe better for longevity as all the gubbings is inside. Well they are until your wife sticks her little mitt through them when cleaning them
