Poor old OP asks a civil question and gets a load of shite. He should have known better than to ask a load of Fruitcakes. I'm learning lol

Most switching converters like these will take 10-14v input and boost it up to something like 16-19V so it can be used in the internal power supply of the MacBook. As said before, if it works on one socket but not the other, run a check on the socket. Decent car cigar lighter sockets are available, we have just bought a couple of these: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140474575058Very good quality, made in Germany and with a threded nut to hold in place. Hole size needed is 27mm, Peter

I have been doing a couple of experiments with this and found that if the sun is shining brightly and the solar panel is doing its stuff it has quite an effect on the charging of the Mac Book. It still does its switching on and off just very rapidly instead, its like it's almost going to hold steady but can't quite hang on.
Also when the solar panel is going full force the meter shows lost 14 volts.

I've just sent an email to the Fruitcake resident Electrician Ron asking him to contact you regarding the problem you have. At the moment he's attempting to sort out a bit of a mix up of wires from the last time he went to a forum Member's house trying to solve another Mac Book Pro query - so please be patient – it is the Easter holiday! If you have 36 cells in the solar panel, each cell will give just over 0.5V, so just over 18V of raw DC at the panel terminals. Out of the solar panel controller you should have 13.80V or round about that figure, depending on the controller and state of charge of the battery. Peter

Peter That would make sense then to what I have been looking at. What would an alternator output?

I think Barry is the only Fruitcake with 36 cells available.
I mean between the ears, not on the roof.

That all seems to make sense to me now and I would guess that its just not possible to charge a mac book off leisure batteries alone. Guess I will always have to be on hook up or keep moving around on a daily basis.

I just received one of those a couple of days ago and the lights all come on OK and the symbol top right of Mac screen shows the power connection is good.
