That's exactly the same one I have that will only charge off the cab sockets when the engine is running but not off the habitation sockets.

It may be faulty I guess. Mine works all the time regardless. The label on the back of mine says the input voltage needs to be between 11.5 and 16 volts which is the perfect range for the job on or off hookup.
It might be a good idea to check the input voltage when it's working and when it's plugged in but not working and see if they are within the correct range. If so send it back quoting those to them.
Check the voltages at your leisure battery and then at the sockets, it's possible that the wiring to your sockets is inadequate and you are getting voltage drop which takes the power outside the chargers operating range. Having the engine running would be brining the voltage up to the higher end and making it run. It's also possible that your batteries are on the way out.
A few tests are needed to be certain about what is happening but either the charger is faulty or the power supply reaching it (without the engine running) is inadequate. You could wire it directly to the battery and see if it works. Be very careful of the polarity if doing that. Tests with a multimeter will reveal all.

All I need now is to find some genius that can do these tests for me as I have no idea how to do all that. I am sure its quite easy for someone that knows what their doing. Any offers in return for a drink or two?

Would do but I am in Spain.
You could spend £10 on a mulitmeter and I will talk you through it. It is not difficult.

There is bound to be someone at the meet at croft that can help. I have a multi meter thing but the only thing I have ever used it for us playing Doctors and nurses with Michelle.

You may have a dry joint on your cig socket. I'll have my soldering kit and meter at Croft so I'll have a look for you. Contrary to popular belief, i'm not entirely useless.

I am easy to spot (fat bald bloke in a onesie with 2 huskies) Gary The only thing which will make you easy to spot in that forthcoming collection of 'fat bald blokes in a onesie' is the fact that you are accompanied by 2 huskies. Otherwise, you would be indistinguishable from the rest of the company - except Barry, perhaps, as he still sports some of his own locks.

Gnomey not going to the meet as he is "At another Meet" and Mrs D not wanting to go either at the same time. Hmmm.

Yup, dead suspicious that. Why esle would she trust you to behave yourself at Croft? I think you're about to be Gnomolded (that's a neologism, combining Gnome and cuckolded).
