Hey - this forum is in danger of becoming wide ranging and useful!
Can anyone offer some help in MS Office functionality? I am driven mad by the propensity of Office to take over its own operation, especially when I am using the alt/tab keys to scroll between mails in Outlook and between spreadsheets in Excel. What happens is that instead of just changing the window in view MS O takes over and adds an extra sub window for "Research", which shows some totally irrelevant options and gives me the chance to search the web. I guess it happens probably because I do not hit the keys exactly evenly or summat like that, but still very annoying.
So my question is - how can I turn off that Research facility and regain control of my own work instead of having MS try to impose their will on it?
Thanks for any help Alan

which version of Office?? shouldn't matter but have you tried this workaround??
Start Word or Excel Press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. Enter the following line, or copy/paste it from this post into the Immediate window: Application.CommandBars("Research").Enabled = False With the insertion point anywhere in the line, press Enter. Press Alt+F4 to close the Visual Basic Editor.
The Research task pane shouldn't appear any more.

Ah - my poor attempt at humour failed miserably then. Just when I was having so much fun! (wrong forum?) I did try your method out of interest though, and it worked perfectly. Now fixed a problem I didn't even know I had!

Fantastic - many thanks for saving me the effort of looking that up!!
I really ought to get my pc overhauled as it's almost two years old now and going really slow but that means I have to sacrifice the use for a day or two and that is just not on!
I used to have a recruitment business, many years ago in a different life. Sold it for peanuts really but couldn't hack it at that stage of my life. A contemporary who had started at the same time in the same area went on to do quite well (Reliance)

Have now done that - it all works just like it says except that the Research function is still operative!
Do we still have drawing boards to go back to?
