the transponder key for our motorhome has gone uptits - replaced the battery twice with new ones and it's still not responding so it's deffo fucked.
rang the Fiat dealer (it's a Fiat Ducato X250 based unit) and was quoted £300. 300 fucking quid?? what the actual fuck???
but it doesn't seem as if these things are easy to get on the replacement key aftermarket - rang a few online companies who referred me back to Fiat - as the key coding is (apparently) a bit weird.
anyone any ideas as to alternative suppliers that isn't going to cost me a shitload of dosh?

Sounds like it would be cheaper to part-ex the motorhome for another one.

found a Fiat specialist who can supply an alternative at around £240 incl coding but they reckon that just recoding the current one might work so that's what we will try first.

I thought you only had transponders on depth sounders on boats. Why have you got a Depth sounder on your motorhome Fats? Wamker!

I think the Boss is correct. Why call it a trans ponder?

I think the clue is in the word handshake, any other area is quite possibly a sexual assault. You should sue him, gnomes are renowned for being well minted. There are companies online who can help you out, like they say in their advertising blurb- There is always gold after an inappropriate hold.

just thought I'd give a quick update on this.
the Fiat dealer I was using says they "ordered" a new remote key as their tests said the other had gone uptits - still worked the ignition OK but would not activate the central locking (and alarm) which was a right PITA. they "ordered" the key in November and I was told there was a backlog with Ducato. fair enuff I thought I'm not using the m/h for a while, so will go with the delay.
the delay turned into weeks, into months and I kept chasing with the same answer - key is "ordered" but is on backorder with Ducato.
with a ski trip looming, I was getting pissed with delays so decided to ring another Fiat dealer and see if they could help. after a chat with Charlie in parts he said he'd do some research and get back asap. 30mins later he called back and told me that my VIN wasn't even on the Fiat/Ducato database for some odd reason (happens from time to time he said) so there is no way the other dealer could order the new key as my vehicle couldn't be matched with anything at Fiat!! he basically said they are feeding me bullshit.
after a good chat, he said he'd get the database updated, order the key (delivered in 3 days) and I should book a service call to get it coded. they key was coded today after talking to this dealer just 2 weeks ago, after waiting 3 months for the other fuckers to do nowt. and to top it all they were all very pleasant and friendly. Lipscomb Fiat Ashford - chapeau!
and to top it all - having coded the new remote key, the defunct one sprang back into life and is working again! looks like something got corrupted and a new coding sorted it all out. hey ho - I now have 2 remotes but at least they both work.
I rang the other dealer today to ask for an update and yep - still on back order. rather than get into an argument with them I just told them to cancel it - they didn't even ask why. fuckers.

Fats, years ago I worked in the parts dept for a Fiat dealer. At the time the 124 was there best selling car and we waited 10 months for a speedo cable for a customer. This is just one example of how long we had to wait for parts.

This is just one example of how long we had to wait for parts. it wasn't so much the delay, but the fact that I was lied to by the original dealer. as the VIN for my vehicle wasn't registered on the Fiat database until corrected by Lipscomb, there is no way that KAP could order the replacement remote control key - yet they said it had been ordered but was on back order with Ducato. that was basically bullshit. Lipscomb got the database sorted, ordered the remote and it was with them in 3 days.
