Posted this on FUCTS but as everyone has left I thought I would try a proper forum. This morning the thetford is only flushing when the blade is closed. Open it and it doesnt work. this is annoying as I need it open to avoid a pile up. What do the experts think?

At great personal expense and inconvenience, I have gone out and inspected my Thetford. That's more IT credit I have now.
Have you just emptied the cassette? Make sure it is pushed fully home.
I can't see anything electrical connected to the shutter mechanism, but there might be something up above the overhead panel.

Thanks for that. Ill knock a fiver off your bill. Ive made it worse by fiddling about and reseating the cassette as well as pulling a few wires and pressing stuff. Doesnt work at all now open or closed. Fuse is ok. Shit it!

Is it a swivel bog? I think they have a microswitch somewhere. Maybe it has moved or you have broke it.

Sorry Bazza, I have no experience with this type of Thetford, that brown wire looks like it has come adrift from something.

2 points I'd like to make.
That cassette compartment could do with a Dettol pressure-wash.
Click on Bazza's photos and some very questionable piccies appear.

You have the same type as me Barry. I have been out and had a look, there is no good access from outside the van although I can see the fuse and the 2 thin brown wires going to it.
If you remove the toilet roll holder from the top of the unit, then remove the 'cup' that it sits in you might see something. Under mine is a 4 wire plug and socket. The wires are blue, brown, black and black/white. Mine is a German van probably with different colour coding though.
