Only got three of the four speeds on my heater fan that work, the fourth did if you wiggled the switch a bit but even that eventually gave up the ghost. Simples thought I, I will remove the switch and replace the regulator on it...bastuds have made it so you pretty much start with removing the front bumper and then work your way backwards until you've got a couple of buckets of bits! Actually that was a tad exaggerated but you do have to remove the map holder, radio, facia and air vent. Even then the access is tighter than a tight thing and you have to wiggle your hands into tiny gaps made of razor sharp metal. Having removed the screws clips and wiring loom the next task is to separate the switch from the regulator, no mean feat ('specially if you have six fat fingers). The clip needs to be pushed in, chocolate box pulled apart and 'assisted' with a screw driver all at the same time and in a space you can only get one hand in. Do these twats never consider that someone might need to access the wiring ('specially seeing as it is Italian and the fans always go tits up), fortunately being an enthusiastic amateur gynecologist I was able to manage. Second problem was sourcing a replacement regulator, local auto electricians didn't stock one and told me to go to Fiat. Fiat took the reg number of the van and told me the part I wanted wouldn't fit my van, I told them it was to replace the bit I had in my hand and quoted the part number asking if that was a regulator for a heater fan. Yes they said but it won't fit your van... I gave up and ordered the part I wanted from eBay and it will arrive tomorrow so hopefully I get to reverse the procedure and get everything fitted without there being too many spare bits left over. Once (if) the fan works I'm going to Fiat and shoving the old part up the Part Managers arse...bet the bastud will fit there!

Fex it!
The guy I have just ordered the regulator from just phoned to say that they had been flooded over over the weekend and the part I want has been sitting in a couple of inches of water for two days. He has reordered and they will be in on Monday week...couldn't make this up could you.

No Jan, I was hoping to get it back together tomorrow whilst I can still remember where everything goes. I drained it all down today and removed all the bits and bats that don't winter too well. I'll take the rest of the week off...but don't tell Mrs GB, I'll just go and sit in the van with me feet up. As long as I shout out the odd swear word she will think I am working in there .

Similar to me a month or so ago, Terry. I wanted to put a satnav in the double-din, replace the radio and fit its replacement in the pocket lower down. Simples, I thought... But like you, I had to take the whole dash apart, even the side air vent, ffs!! Nearly two days it took me, being careful with my back. I took photos as I went along, but even so, I fitted a couple of panels and then had to remove them to insert something else first. What's wrong with these manufacturers? You wouldn't have to be a Brain o' Britain (or Brain o' Vitaly) to design it slightly more sympathetically. Grrrr...

I had meant to take some piccies but kind of got carried away. My cunning plan is to photograph it as it goes back and then upload it with some instructions just in case other silly sod decides to do it themselves.

Fan went on mine, my pal owns a building company and was scrapping one of his Citroen vans so ripped out the gubbings for me. All fitted piece of piss. Worked for a while, now just works on number 4.

That will be the heater resistor pack and should be an easy replacement as it is under the dash and accessible without having to strip the van down.

I knew it was a piss poor attempt to make it look like I knew what the feck I was talking about. Carry on.

Unfortunately it is one of Fiat Ducato signature faults, that and melting the fuse box.
