usually I would post this on fucts but any mention of tyres will likely get the tyre plonker/pillock/pedant whatever you want to call him will be in all of a lather again. He may be a member here too but in that case I can just be bloody rude so its OK.
anyway.
i have read lots of time that people move their van and mark their tyres to ensure they do not rest formprolonged oeriods in the same spot. It seems this has happened to us. Bus was pulling markedly to the right on or latest trip and chez mercedes said the tyres were buggered due to weight of bus etc. Nothing wrong with tyres apart from that. We took over the 2 front winter wheels and had them fitted. All is fine. He said we can put the buggered tyres on the back ( 2 wheels each side on back ).
so. 2 questions...
how long can you safely leave him parked without this problem ? We reckon it was max 2 months this year, but I assume the issue is accruing over time ? His max weight is 5.5 t.
would you put the buggered tyres on the back ?

There will be a maximum pressure number on the sidewall. First step, pump them up to that and leave them a while.
The tyres on the vehicle should also get the same high pressure treatment to ward off flat spots when stood for long periods. I will be boosting the pressure in my 2 front tyres over Winter. The back 4 are not important as I will be changing them in the Spring due to age.
Remember that when it turns cold, the pressure reduces in the tyres, sometimes by a fair amount.

Our main issue is summer when it gets bloody hot here. We use the bus in winter for the most part. The tyres are already quite high pressue , 6 bar. They are truck tyres. So we cannot get anything more in !
Every 2 weeks move ?

Every 2-4 weeks is what I do. I don't just move it, though, I give it a proper run so the engine gets properly warmed through. If not, you just add a load of condensation into the mix. Mind you, my van gets used less in winter and more at other times, so a bit different to you.
Moving it regularly will also have the benefit of dislodging peacocks and mountain goats and whatever other exotica have started camping under your bonnet.

Ours are left for weeks on end but its a gravel drive, dunno if that makes a difference.
IF the tyre guy says they are knackered just bin em and get two new ones. Dont think you can afford to mess about with tyres surely.

Thanks Tugs. Its what I suspected. He is always plugged in and has frost stat etc so nothing habitation wise goes awry.
The mercedes mechanic said they were " deformé" not knackered per se. Thats why he passed his ITV in October no problem. We dont roll very much in summer so they are the tyres we have had since the van was new 5 years ago. Is it because its front wheel drive that we cannot have them on the front but they are OK on the back ? I agree we dont want to mess about with tyres . But it was the merc fella who suggested it and he knows its not really a question of cost.

Yep, hes a "he". At 5.5 tons he has to be really. Wouldnt want to meet a female that size. Buddy the Bus. In fact we have 2 Buddys. And an Angus. And a Margot ...so we do have a girl ( she actually started out as Marcel but changed her mind )

We had those for our caravan cookie because it stood for months in the same spot. Hans says if all the wheels stand on them they will keep the shape as the weight is spread across 6 wheels. He also agrees, change the tyres, dodgy tyres are never a good idea. Be safe not sorry. Howsomever he says get in touch with the vehicle manufacturer and ask their advice Sal, you must be safe.

I think the reason the deformed ones can go on the back but not the front is because the uneven shape will affect the steering and handling, giving vibration back through to the driver. Might also affect cornering performance/grip in less than ideal road conditions.

Howsomever he says get in touch with the vehicle manufacturer and ask their advice Sal, you must be safe. Tell Hans ta very much. But you obviously didnt give him the full story as I said it was Mercedes who suggested it ie the vehicle manufacturer ! never mind. They are summer tyres and now we are changing to winter so we have time to sort it out. merci!

We were at Mercedes truck garage ( for want of a better translation ) But yes. Hans is right. Himself will call Mercedes in Germany. There are a few other niggles which he probably needs to tackle too. Its a bit odd for us as my French is fluent but not with technical stuff ( same in English...baffling ) so I cannot really help. Tbh Mecedes in France are OK but he would be reassured with a call to Germany.
But not tonight as we have been next door...which means Pastis. Lordy.

My himself will always ring the manufacturer of anything he wants to know technical stuff about, always get it from the horses mouth. That'll be £99.99 for his practical advice
