We're thinking of dipping back into motorhoming but on a smaller scale, we previously had a bigger A class German H.y.m.e.r but now considering a smaller PVC, it's built around a Citroen L3H2 van & internally converted to a 2berth (not by a recognized company)- more of a stealth van than obvious motorhome, Do any of you have experience of obtaining insurance for conversions, if so any suggestions as to which Ins companies or brokers to check out or approach ? Vic (Spell checker seems to want to call the German H.y.m.e.r a 'poncemobile' 😵

Now there's a blast from the past! Nice to see you back. Yeah its like Hogwarts in here. certain words, Avatars all sorts of stuff change on their own like magic. Have a look at this link motorhomefruitcakes.freeforums.net/thread/22468/new-insurance-discount-members-aib as a member you get a 15% discount with AIB. They are members on here as well but just give them a call. They specialise in tailoring motorhome policies and are really helpful. Im sure they will sort you out.

Welcome Vic! Not heard from you for ages. I remember that I once wondered if you were a physician specialising in STD?? Beware that "homebuilt conversions" have extremely low resale values and are often difficult to sell. The trade doesn't like them and often won't accept them. Good luck.

Nah, not been ill (touch wood), we sold our H.y.m.e.r must have been 18months/2yrs back as bits were starting to fail & replacement parts getting difficult to source, but we still hanker to get away rather than b&b's so when this 2007 Citroen Relay conversion popped up & after lengthy conversations we took the opportunity to travel 140miles to see & test it - long story short we're now excited to renew our fun trips (but after having all the bells and whistles in the H.y.m.e.r it'll take some getting used to paring down what we used to carry & the levels of comfort but it's big enough at 6m for long weekend always - even longer over to France. Thanks for the link to insurance company, I'll give them a bell on Monday to see what their quote is. Vic

You'll learn to live without all the fancy bits Vic and having a smaller van you won't be reluctant to even go on day trips with it, like wot we do.

I quite like the PVC Vans. I was looking at Globestar (I think) a while back but I just cannot make it work without taking out something significant like push bikes or the Kayak cos I aint compromising on the scooter which means folding bikes and other big stuff have to find a place inside.

A little trailer like mine would let you put the scooter on, plus you could also attach bikes, kayak and kitchen sink (with suitable padding between them). Hadn't thought of that, had ya? Twat.

Trailer? Wash your mouth out! I can hardly fly around the Alps like a manic white van man with a bloody great trailer attached and it kind of detracts from the whole point of having a PVC. I like them as some of those powerful ones will sit at 90 mph on the motorway and fly around mountains like a gazelle rather than a big white lump of lard brick coachbuilt. Probably.

Is it going in your junk mail?
