Just took van in for them to look at air bag light on. I really don't mind paying when somethings fecked but I hate it when it's " thats £50 and your air bag lights still on you'll have to take it to main dealer"
Wtf 50 to be told what you already know.
And main dealer wants £80 to have a look.
Possibly a £ 700 bill
Spent a lot already on this van
Told Mrs C vans going if any thing else breaks. And we'll buy an older van.

Bad luck, Cookie. That is the problem with newer vehicles. A bit of a two-edged sword, really - modern vehicles are SO much more reliable but cost a helluva lot more when something does go wrong. On my car service a while ago, I asked if they could cure the rear window washer 'dribbling' and emptying the washer bottle. He later told me that it was a little one-way valve in the hose that was in the head-lining somewhere and was going to cost a lot of money. I left it. Then I bought a one-way valve (a few pence) cut the visible hose by the jet and put it in there - sorted! Probably the same with your warning light. A tiny problem, bad earth or other connection or a tiny electronic component, just pence to fix, if only you knew what it was. If Ducato, have a look on Ducato forums - it might be a well-known problem and a simple fix. www.fiatforum.com/ducato/

When our 584 had a problem with the fuel gauge a local mechanic had a look. He spent about an hour trying to fix it and then being unsuccessful he refused to charge me as he hadn't been able to sort it. I have used him ever since and he has been brilliant and I never feel that he might try and rip me off.

I am lucky in that my mate is a mechanic of the old school, fix before replace and he does not charge the earth.

Took my 15 year old Golf in for a 'service' as wife was taking it to UK and there was a fault on rear lights. Service €99 (same for 15 years) and isolated rear lights fault but no time to do repair €10.29 inc new bulb.
I will still have to dismantle and fix towing plug problem as and when I get the car back.
Ray.

These folk are around but it's difficult to track them down. Worth paying to keep them. I'm lucky too. I've found a good guy, he runs quite a large bodyshop that also does servicing AND... he owns a motorhome!

I bring my mechanic tobacco back from our trips and charge him cost price so it's in his best interest to make sure that we get there and back.
