Bloody hell we could set up a Fruitcakes band then. Aldo on his drums and clarinet, Boggers looking confused at his plectrum, me on guitar, who else? Rock God Dad? I've been trying to get Mr T to buy me a banjo for 10 years, no luck so far Just looked and there are loads on fleaBay for around £100. Tell him to stop being a tightwad and buy you one! Baz needs a banjist-person in his band. Ukeleles are the latest fun activity - lots of groups of ukeleleists around. Maybe one of those instruments would be a good/better social activity? "I'm leanin' on a lamppost..." .

No!!! NO NO NO! No fecking Banjos and definitely no fecking Ukuleles. You feckers are Red Neck enough already without you coming on here dressed in flaming dungarees with half yer flipping teeth missing twanging a Bastud Banjo FFS! If you cant play a proper Rock God instrument like the electric spoons you can feck off!

This might interest you, Bazza... It's a Midi-equipped "guitar" that you can play hundreds of different instruments on. Even banjos and ukeleles... jamstik.com/products/jamstik

My mate bought a ukulele about 7 year ago, when we were in Paris I asked him how he was doing with it, his answer was he can play it now as good as the day he walk out of the shop with it.

I already have an interface to connect the guitar to the PC so I was using software called Midi Guitar 2 to convert it to Piano and flute but its a right arse on and it was just a trial version. You can get proper pedals that do organ, synth etc. Im toying with the idea of just getting either a proper keyboard organ like a Roland or a midi keyboard and soft synth and just learning another instrument or going down the guitar route. I need to be able to add more than just a guitar and bass really.

He could sell it to Kay... !

I "sort of" could do it, but then spent just one Sunday, on my own, practicing for 8 or 10 hours non-stop and I could play it by the evening! Good enough to gig at pubs in Ireland! So. .. put yer cock away and substitute it for yer bodhran, you dirty boy, you!!

Im thinking of getting a Midi keyboard now and summut called Cakewalk that will make it sound like anything you want. Whether it will also teach you to play the fecker I dunno. Doesnt seem right somehow making a guitar into a Piano.

You use the stick as if you were shaking a biro that had run out of ink - that's the action. It is not so much using the stick but when to but pressure on the back of the bodhran to change the tone. Forget about that until much, much later, Joe - at this stage you don't need to know that. Just put the flat of your hand on the inside of the bodhran to ''dampen" the sound, and concentrate on learning that rythmic stick action. The movement should come from the wrist, not your arm/elbow and you should be very relaxed and ''fluid". When you can easily play along with a tune (reels and jigs are best), only then start to work out hand position to change the tone. I can highly recommend this fabulous CD. All the tunes are playable alongside a bodhran, as a bodhran doesn't feature on any of the recordings. Great music to play along with! tinyurl.com/y9yjqs3bGood luck.
