My HTPC I built 10 years ago failed, tested it on the bench and it would not boot up, nope nothing at all. Tried a another hard disc and cd drive with a boot disc in but zilch, led showing on the motherboard but nothing happening and no output to the display, bought another power supply which cost me £20 but still nothing happening.
Decided it must be the Motherboard so bought a suitable one of E bay for £55. Arrived today a good 3 days from the estimated but happy with that. Fitted it into the case and connected everything up and bugger all happened, still no output to the display, pulled all the connections, USB,power led, hard disk led, sata, hard drive, all the other connections apart from the fans. Still no boot up, in desperation I unplugged one of the two vent fans from the MB and bugger me the MB booted up albeit not into windows as I had screwed up the hard drive whilst buggering about, must find my win7 pirate boot disk to sort it out. Just goes to show nothing is easy where PC's are are concerned.

Just switch 'em off, then back on again... If Baz had told you that, he'd have charged you £99.99 (plus VAT)!!

No I would have just chucked it in the bin and sold him a new one. Never got involved in hardware repairs, no money in it. Ten years though Flint! FFS! Thats a long time for a PC. Least you got a lot of spare bits now so should last you another ten. It might be the oldest working PC in the world then.

My Toshiba Qosmio is still going after eleven years!
I find I can do almost everything I need on my 'phone, though.

You want to see up in my loft, enough PC's and bits to open a shop, pc's going back to the 80's. Must have a clear out.

My pal down the road hordes IT stuff or he did. He asked me to come over once and condemn to the tip some of it. Jeesaz! There was all sorts of shit in there. Printers from the 90s and probably 80s that weighed a ton, Windows 95 Disks FFS! old computers, I skipped the lot, he was nearly crying. "I paid three grand for that printer a few years ago!". Twenty five years ago maybe!
IT stuff is all consumable to me. After three years if its not fucked it should probably be replaced anyway. The only thing I hang onto is my iPhone 4s as its perfect and I dont want a massive phone. I did have to replace it last year as I smashed the fucker. Twenty quid!
