About time too. It's been obvious for years that the postal vote system is ripe for abuse. Whether it has been abused or not is almost immaterial and is difficult or often impossible to prove/disprove. Why wait for the system to fail? Put it right now.

But what about Brits who are entitled to vote, but either live overseas, or are travelling overseas at the time of the election?
Disenfranchising millions is not very democratic.

No disenfranchising genuine cases, Geoff. It's the "postal vote on demand, for anyone" that's the problem. If you're disabled, abroad, etc., are all genuine reasons to apply for a postal vote. Easily checkable and much less likely to be subject of fraud. But hundreds, even thousands, of demands for "postal votes" in any one area for no good reason is just opening the door to abuse.

But they could all say they were going on holday. It would need a lot of checking to confirm/deny in the few weeks running up to an election.
I am not saying the system should not be tightened, but just looking at how, without cancelling postal voting altogether.

But the point is that they COULD be checked, and the sheer numbers applying would sound alarm bells.

If you can solve the problem about the nunbers, the timescale and the manpower rwuired to check the Government might be highly delighted and you would get an MBE

Just go back to the way it was, that's all, before Tony Blair fucked it all up because he wanted all the weak and weary wankers to vote for him without having to get up off their idle arses! Can I have my MBE now, please?
