Exploding batteries are bloody dangerous. www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopic-191073.htmlSorry for the serious stuff but this is something we should all be aware of. You may hear the battery boiling or you may smell rotten eggs. The smell can be confused with the smell from your grey water tank so always check that first. If a battery is hot to the touch be very careful. They can be warm when on charge but shouldn't be hot, Alan.

Read this on FUCTS and it prompted me to just check my batteries to make sure nothing untoward was going on. Sounds like the the poster was lucky and caught it in time.

He was bloody lucky, it could have exploded in his face while he was disconnecting it. Never touch them when they are overheating, just disconnect the source of the charge and let them cool down and stop gassing. Remember to pull the fuse out of the solar too, if you have it. Look here, it's not a big explosion but it gives you the idea www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_TnsHu2u4cObviously the battery can make the spark to set it's self off, especially if you are stupid enough to try disconnecting it while its gassing. It could just as easily go off due to an internal fault causing a spark. A well maintained battery being properly charged won't cause problems so don't worry, just be aware.

Even more dangerous if your also being gassed by a band of spaniards at the same time, the combination of gasses can be lethal to your dog.
Now that's so serious I shall post it on motorhome wankers right away, whatto

The only gas we get in the van is from the bleeding dogs. Luckily the battery exploded outside and didn't blow the bloody door off.
Though I once did a fart which damned near blew my arse off.
