Our van failed its MOT, a hole in a section of the exhaust that goes round almost the entire circumference, how that happened in 12 months I dont know, having a bit of a problem finding a replacement section but the local motor factors are on the case and hopefully we will get one tomorrow Also a problem with the brakes juddering while being tested, the tester suggested new disks and pads which we bought but we cannot get the locking nuts off the wheels for love nor money. looks like we'll have to get them bashed off but I'm really worried about the damage to the alloys Our year's warranty ended on the 19th

That sounds like a bit more than bad luck Kaytutt , mine had a hole in the pipe between boxes and my man just welded a new piece in . But it is 21 years old , should'nt have happened in 12 months

The van is 2006 (20,000 miles) but it passed the MOT last year (done by the dealer)so I'm assuming no holes there then. My son tried welding the hole but the pipe is so thin it was just making it worse. We had a couple of pipes delivered to the motor factor today but they were the wrong ones, they've got the piece that came off now and we're hopeful they'll get the right one tomorrow. cost is only around £35 so not so bad. The biggest headache is the locking nuts

Have you approached the warranty people as presumably the fault has not really occurred after the 19th. Perhaps they may honour it. Worth a punt.
Surely a garage could sort your nuts out?
Maybe another post on FUCTS might get you somewhere.

I've posted on Swift Talk, apparently there's a wheel nut removal service that guarantees not to damage the wheels, nationwide service, call out charge is £1 a mile, they're in Barnsley It'll be cheaper to buy new wheels! the warranty company is the dealer, they have a workshop on site, I might ring them if we get nowhere with local options today

If/When you get the nuts off, don't bother with locking nuts again - they're a royal PITA. How many people do you know who've actually had wheels nicked?

I did reply to this once, it must have fallen off we won't be putting locking nuts back on, we've got 4 standard bolts ready to go back on. I've just heard the AA remove locking nuts and as I've just renewed my insurance with AA cover included I might give them a go

Just leave the hole in the pipe - great sound effect, better than the new F1 rules!

It won't pass the MOT with the hole in the pipe, anyway exhaust is sorted, just need brakes done once we get the wheels off

Don't you know that every manufacturer under the sun employs engineering departments who carefully calculate how to make things so that the MTBF (mean time before failure) of everything they sell is exactly 370 days (to allow for leap years) so it is practically guaranteed to fails IMMENDIATELY AFTER the warranty period expires? I've got the same problem with one of my window blinds on my 'van as the 'string-thingie' which winds the fly-screen up and down has parted company with the screen just a few days after the 12 month warranty expired (and immediately after its annual habitation check! What's worse is the fact that we've opened this blind no more than half-a-dozen times since we got the damn 'van - but it's likely going to take several hours labour (and probably an expensive new part, not to mention the delivery time involved) to fix the damn thing! Oh, and it's also a Swift Group vehicle! Don't they build them well - and on shitty Sevel-built vehicles too!

If/When you get the nuts off, don't bother with locking nuts again - they're a royal PITA. How many people do you know who've actually had wheels nicked? Dozens - and I also know of hundreds of folk who've been gassed whilst over-nighting in motorway aires in France. These are very real threats which we all face but fortunately Barry's Emporium of Essential Motorhome Supplies sells everything we need to counter them.
