Battery megastore anywhere near you? I got one off them in Caen last year. Very good service and they will fit it for you

Unless you have a way of powering your charger Sarah, solar panel is not enough, either mains or van engine, the freezer will drain the battery. Are you stationary or travelling each day? Years ago a friend had a car fridge, just to keep things cold when travelling. He left the fridge on all night when stationary and next morning couldn´t start the car.

We will buy a new one tomorrow. Battery does nada. We have to be either hooked up or run the genny. Just a question of which battery....

Do not get a Gel Battery unless your charger has a Gel setting. I am presuming you may have an Electroblock system, they do have a Gel setting on the charger unit (close to the main on/off isolating switch).
If you have any other type of electronics please put it on here for me to see please. Ta.

I'd just buy the cheapest wet lead/acid you can find. Can you fit two side by side? I think yo said that currently (Haw haw haw) you have just one big one (Haw haw haw).

Thanks folks. We will go for a wet one ( titter...) as I understand that gel may need a particular charger. We have wet niw so will stick with it. I think the extra battery for freezer fitted by dozy french is 1. Way too small. 2. gel. 3. About 5m of cable away from charge... So no bloody suprise its buggered things up. I am sure the germans will have a thing or 2 to say about that !!!! I am still the chief mechanic....

It's very improbable that your battery powered freezer is supportable. The power consumption will be written on it, post that and we'll do the sums.

I think its OK. I did some sums ( but its possible my sums are rubbish !) It says 8amps. There are 3 settings..I am assuming 8 amps is highest setting. Our big battery has 180ah...I assume over 20 hours. That should support the freezer given we have it on lowest setting and it only draws when it needs to cool. Thats why I realised something was wrong as if big battery fully charged then it should support freezer even if its chugging away all night.
Or am I completely wrong ? Thanks

Another silly question. We have an " aux" switch. This needs to be on to power the front blind. It basically links to the invertor . The invertor does not have to be switched on for this to work. I have noticed the the charging amps increase when this is on . It seems very strange to me. Any idea why or is it just that the battery is dead that it shows silly stuff. Battery holds no charge whatsoever btw...as soon as I switch off the genny or unplug the whole van powers down and 12v switches off.

That emboldened part suggests to me that your 12v battery is dead and that you need a new one. Sorry can't shed any light on your other issues.

to add to previous , also if you are drawing lead acid battery down by a lot of amps continually this will also shorten its life and its efficiency.

my own view but personally i would only use one of these kind of fridges on a temporary basis, while driving , on a genny or hook up or in an emergency. one would probably be ok for the ferry down to Spain on a low setting, i would still have a low voltage cut off switch installed though.
