ah well - it seems I am doomed to slowly rearrange the motorhome and replace all external parts.
coming back home on Sunday I was driving down a narrow tree lined lane and there was a god almighty thump from the roof probably from an overhanging trunk. but as I was knackered - it was 8pm and I'd been up since 4am and had a 90 min drive home ahead of me having just set off - I couldn't be arsed to stop and see what the damage was.
so taking a quick look on Monday am, I could see no damage but the Truma vent cowl had been knocked clean off - so that's what the branch must have hit and the thump was probably the cowl bouncing on the roof before it disappeared into the hedge. quickly onto Amazon, ordered a replacement which came today and has been screwed into place - just before it pisses with rain thankfully! all for £20 incl express delivery.
the van is going in next Monday to get the new bumper made and fitted

Good one fats. Least its a bit cheaper this time. I sent two roof top chimney cowels Into orbit. Yes indeed ! Our fire sometimes takes a while to light when not used for a bit. I got pissed off with it and kept turning on the gas and pressing it down to fire the ignition. It would light for a bit and go out so I just got more irate and kept clicking and plunging it until eventually there was a fucking great bang in the chimney and on the roof followed by what seemed like a gap of about 20 seconds when there was another clatter on the roof. I hadn't read the manual of course but your not supposed to keep relighting a fire that's not lit properly more than a couple of times. Your supposed to wait three minutes. Eventually the build up of gas in the chimney ignited like an after burner and sent the cowel into space. Luckily it did actually come back down on the roof. The second and final time I did it I had to go searching in the undergrowth for it.

Don't say you haven't been warned, so stop feeding your arris with Leffe and cheese and gawd knows wot else... Mind you, if you timed it right, it'd propel you back up into the canoe toute suite, an' no danger of fire either...

and if you've never been to Canvey Island - don't bother.
