I am near Bonn and heading to millys an Poland so I got a few choices Find a place in Germany get it replaced Source one from U.K. And get it posted to milly and fit it once I get there. Wait till Poland (cheaper) ? I can fit it no probs myself

Not the van, just the starter. It won't fix it but it feels good.

I would expect that you'd get a new one easily enough Blu, or there are probably plenty of places where you could have your existing one checked out and rebuilt.
What are the symptoms? Don't forget to check your ring when you have it out. Ring problems are a bugger.

Best way to explain it is: Sometimes it starts no probs Other times it just won't start engine is turning but it's just not kicking in, like it's a loose connection inside (I have checked all connections) It does eventually start but takes a good few try's but as I said sometimes it just starts right off :-(

I think firstly I'd try and source one locally, pay up and fit it as soon as you can - if it totally packs up suddenly, you'll be fooked. Thankfully, it's not too difficult a job (assuming you have a hammer and a Swiss army knife? ) Advice (if you need it) here - tinyurl.com/zhec9ql Both these people very professional and I guess will ship to Germany - tinyurl.com/y7oc7djd tinyurl.com/y8j5zp9b (In your situation, I wouldn't trust getting a 'cheapie' from E-Bay) Alternatively, try that local German parts distributor? This Parts list may help you (if you've the time to wade through it! ) - tinyurl.com/yctdnml7 Good luck.

I think Alan's advice to hit it with a hammer is probably the right one!! Take the motor off, clean it and put it back??

First thing to check is the Earth lead from engine to bodywork. They are notorious for being shite. If you have bother starting, buy some Jump Leads and clip one end to the engine and the other to the chassis/bodywork (you only need to use one). If it is a fix, wait until Poland and get a piece of welding cable fitted with ends and get that fitted. (Invoice me in £ or $ ... not Barrys' Mickey Mouse Euro money).

Are you saying the starter is turning the engine every time Blu?
If it is it's not a starter problem, more like the fuel cut off solenoid supplying the injector pump not disengaging thus not letting fuel through.
Like trying to tow start a modern diesel with a flat battery. You can tow it all day. The engine will turn but it won't start because there's not enough power to open that solenoid. Would have done with an old fashioned push pull stopper. People overlook that.

Cheers guys, Alan I defo think it's the starter as you can hear it clanking when it won't start but I may be wrong :-( I have breakdown recovery so can always use that if worse come to the worst

As Alan says, if the engine is turning it's not the starter unless it's just not disengaging from the previous 'start attempt'. Do you have a mechanical clatter from the starter motor when it's trying to start or just the starter motor whirring? I like the fuel cut-off solenoid failure of Alan's - that would mean the engine IS being turned, just not firing up. We need to know if the engine is turning when it won't start or if it's the starter motor turning on it's own and not turning the engine? Would your guarantee cover a repair locally in Germany? It might be worth a 'moaning 'phone call' to them to find out and save yourself a bit of hassle?

[ Yup that's exactly it. mechanical clatter from the starter motor Engine is turning but won't kick in No idea if they would cover locally and as the recipient is back home I can't even tell ya how it's from, a friends lad is a mechanic in the post office and got it thru them for me
