Last time we used tunnel (2018) with our current MH which weights 4000KG = 4.4 ton. From what i can recall, we were in with cars, vans, MH's. See below C&P below from Eurotunnel booking page. I'm not sure what to do for the best here, go in at 3.5 ton, or use freight service?
Any advice greatly appreciated................cheers.

While weights are in the frame have a look at petitions.parliament.uk put in motorhome only two petitions there and read the one about increasing the B licence to allow 3.65 tonnes instead of the 3.5 tonnes. I signed it. I think it’s a good idea. 👍

When I uprated my Ducato from 3.3t to 3.5 I could have gone to 4.3t, same vehicle with no modifications needed.

It's a fuckin' nonsense all these "maximum weights" - the paperwork changes, but the vehicle doesn't !!

When my Autocruise Wentworth on a Peugeot Boxer base vehicle was uprated from 3.5 to 3.7 tonnes the only thing it was checked for was rear axle had air bag assisted suspension. Down rating back to 3.5 when I turned 70 was a f***ing nightmare. Got an official weigh bridge ticket fully loaded including driver was 3.42 tonnes. Altered the V5 clipped on the weigh bridge ticket sent it all of to DVLA with covering letter. Months passed so rang them up (took ages to get an answer) yes yes they said will send you a new V5 a week later it arrived. It was 3.7 tonnes so rang them again same problem ages to get a reply. And yes yes sorry about that will send you a new V5 a week later a new one arrived. Guess what it was 3.42 tonnes. Rang the shitheads up again and yes yes we are ever so sorry we will send you a new V5 . A week later it arrived and hurray 3.5 tonnes. So I now have V5s for 3.7, 3.42, and 3.5 all in the space of three weeks. Result. But this is not the end of the story. As the van was sorned I was told that I had to tax it to get a new V5 as I didn’t have a V5 had to get a form from the post office fill it in and send it and a cheque and MOT to the DVLA. The very next day the 3.7 V5 arrived so I cancelled the cheque. Now I had used the wrong costing for the tax paying £34 more than what it should have been but having cancelled the cheque it didn’t matter. But a week later a refund cheque from the DVLA was sent to me for £34 and my MOT cert. I still have it. DVLA Incompetence at its very best.

They are not all the same and its not always just a paper exercise. Some axles cannot be simply upgraded individually without adding bits as mentioned above or at all in some cases. Its complicated. Most likely our next van will be on an Alko Chassis again and I dont think you can uprate the rear axle weights on those and generally the overhang on the Ducato axle vans is too long. I was interested in what Joe said about such a huge upgrade though as I was considering a PVC but I think the best route is to get the maxi chassis or a 4250kg alko coachbuilt in the first place like that Esprit we looked at.

Funny you should say that as I had a similar experience when I uprated, got 3 V5s with different weights on them.

We came Across to Calais last week on Irish Ferries (okay but a bit cramped) we decided to park up overnight at Cite Europe. Mrs GB was worried that the nasty border guards would confiscate the contents of our fridge so wanted to do a big shop when we came over the Channel. I was a bit more pragmatic and said fuck em but maybe caution was the better part of valour. Anyway we get over and of course they are not remotely interested in our skimmed milk or cheddar cheese. We parked up in a fairly crowded car park and went off shopping. When we came out everyone had buggered off and I noticed a printed notice on the aires sign stating that they closed the car park at 9pm. Well it would be bloody difficult to close it as they had no means of doing it but you know what happens to those that do not obey orders. Don’t know if this is a new thing or how long it is going to let but Cite Europe was always a brilliant stop for us especially on the way home.

Couple of Aires at Wissant we normally use, good chippy and nice walk down to the sea and the other one is a quiet farmers field. As for taking contraband food into the EU well fuck em! Who won Brexit anyway? Bastuds! Cheddar cheese though to France? FFS!
