I forgot to say , it was confirmed the turbo is kaput . What made us laugh today which totally contradicts what I posted above . Bloke arrives chez Mercedes . His brand new 4x4 is covered in the showroom waiting to be unveiled . It was revealed and he climbed inside , drove it 5 metres outside and then placed his gilet jaune on the dash . 🙄. You know what they say about driving a new car off the forecourt ....

Dogging hotels! Got to be more comfortable than a carpark...whatever floats your boat though I hope they can get Buddy sorted for you in double quick time, I would certainly put a padlock on the booze locker, not that I don't trust the French mechanics but Bazza might just have enough time to get over there now he knows where the van is and that it is going to be unattended.

Oh dear Sarah
Are you insured with Saga, because that is what it is turning into.
I hope they source the new turbo soon, and that you find a 'foggy' hotel (saw the correction) with a good chef - get stuck in.
Turbo not repairable? Hang onto it for possible spares/recon.
I suppose Slowenia is slipping out of reach.
Good luck for good outcome.

We discussed this last night with French friends . We all agree if you drive a gas guzzler or a camping car you really cannot moan about paying a green tax on fuel . Very different if you earn a minimum wage and live in the sticks . By the end of aperos we had agreed they should at least double the price of fuel ...it will keep the riff raff and Bogger's off the roads 😊 Fixed... Fingers crossed for your second attempt. Bon Voyage as they say in Norfolk. Saucy git... I will NOT be classed with riff raff... I am a riff raff class all of my own! And it'd take a lot more than a mere fuel price hike to keep me outta France. Anyway, isn't it about time you fecked off to India...??

Strewth. The last one I had replaced was on a Chrysler Jeep for €1,750. by a Chrysler agent. I thought that was horrendous 4 years ago.!

I wasnt even close then. How old is it? Do they not have some kind of warranty? Thought Turbos lasted for decades.

Often it's the accessibility that starts to ramp up the price, the guy who is designing our kitchen has a Special Edition Renault. It need a new headlight bulb and this involved removing the wheel, taking out the inner wing hugger and then various other parts and then they can put in a new bulb. Over an hours worth of work for what should be a two minute job and of course it has to be booked in to be done effectively giving the owner the choice of driving their vehicle with the defect or being without a car for a week or so. When the fan switch went on the van I had to start with removing the radio and then most of the dashboard before I could get to it. I now video everything when I take on a job like this as I can often end up with a few spare bits left over when I've finished and by watching the footage back I can see where it should have gone .

Yep, just a simple bulb replacement is now classed as a "Non user operation" and "Take to the workshop" red light on the dash.
I wanted to replace a back light bulb on the Golf. The handbook said a non user action. But all it involves is two hands to squeeze three sprung clips for the whole assembly to fall into your hands. Unlike the Tiguan back light needs trim removal, two different size 'torx' tools, a 6mm spanner and lots of prising and even then various small Philips to dismantle the light assembly.

We are installed on the coast in a lovely fish restaurant. We were here 6 years ago in the bus ...that’s where woofer #1 ate the floor ! Robby finally repaired the floor 2 weeks ago . Made us laugh . Back to the scene of the crime .

They have to lower the engine to get to it . Chef told us this morning that some camping cars are so bad they have actually cut holes in them 🙄 The turbo itself is €2300 .
The bill for Buddy the Bus maintenance this year has topped €10k . Why do you think I kick up a stink when people won’t pay €2 for parking !!!
Btw . Sete aire is quite popular , even in December 🙂

Had a similar issue when I wanted access to the indicator flasher unit. I had to dismantle the dash...
Sorry to hear about the turbo, Sal.
