Good news all round Jan, glad you haven't managed to damage yourself too badly despite your valiant attempt. Fingers crossed for the weekend and I hope that Hans can function without the dialysis.

Friday 4.30 am. Not a good visit yesterday, hands tied again because he tried to pull stuff out, body still swollen with water, quite heavily sedated. He's stubborn when they try to clean his mouth and grips his teeth together like a child, I was able to persuade him to let me do it, but dare not go to the back teeth in case he bit the brush. I am losing hope again, it doesn't look good to me. Wolfgang was in demand with another patient yesterday and only told us Hans had been breathing on his own for four hours yesterday so he was tired because of that, then he was called say to another patient. It has got to the stage where Heike and I are saying what if? what am I going to do because I can't stay here without him. It is now 8 weeks on this scenic railway and I'm losing strength and hope.

So, so sorry to hear this, Jan. What a dreadful roller-coaster for you both.
What on earth has caused this downturn? He seemed to be picking up?
Whatever, we send best wishes and thoughts for you both. X

Sorry to hear this news. It must be like a kick in the stomach everytime he relapses but it maybe is like Wolfgang says and he will pull round a bit. I guess you are going to fear the worse and prepare yourself but he seems very much like he's not throwing the towel in. Keep Ohmming

Today I wrote an email, with help from Heike, to Wolfgang in German, to make sure he understood completely what I asked. I told him I wanted him to be completely honest with me and tell me what chance Hans has. Heike then spoke to him at the `high noon´ call also in German asking him for his reply. He says he has not changed his mind that Hans has a good chance of recovery, although not to the health he had before, this he told me ages ago, but it just seems to drag out for so long. On Monday they plan this new port for the dialysis and again says this is not a permanent thing, his kidneys will recover.
He agreed that I should not visit so often, because I don´t have time to recover my strength between visits when I go so often.
However, at the end of next week they plan to send Hans to the other `weening´ hospital where they had planned to send him a few weeks ago in Waren, Mecklanburg.
This is usually a four week stay, but Hans may need a second 4 weeks, after this some kind of rehabilitation time which will probably be at the Ostsee a little further North. Once again I must look for Stellplatz in the Waren area or a small camp site in case there is no place at the hospital for me to stay in the Navajo with Motley.
Heike goes home after breakfast on Sunday, bless her she is staying until the very last minute because she goes back to work on Monday. Now she really knows what is happening after seeing it all first hand and says we must keep in touch on the WhatsApp whenever I want.
If only I could sleep at night and not lay awake worrying perhaps things wouldn´t always look so gloomy to me. I don´t mean to sound dramatic, but the truth is my strength for the past 40 years is lying on that hospital bed.

Jan
Sorry to hear about set-backs.
It is good that you and Heike have had a 'what if' conversation as I am sure the thoughts were in your head when you were alone but nobody to discuss with, not even us, because you might have felt you were not supporting Hans and/or being disloyal. But do not look to far into the future in that vein.
It is good that while Hans resisted the nurses cleaning his mouth he allowed you to do it - it means he recognises and appreciates your presence. One of the hardest things for you must be that he cannot express what he is thinking and feeling, albeit not much under sedation.
I do not know whether these sort of thoughts about your situation are any help, but we are trying to imagine what you are going through and feel for you.
Tell Heike that we are pleased she is with you and thank her for coming.
Have a hug from both of us.
Geoff and Basia.

Our last posts crossed.
Wolfgang has to be right doesn't he if he is again planning sending Hans for rehab?
It is a pity Heike has to leave.
If there is anything you want to talk about after she goes and do not want to go public there is always PMs, to any of us. We are here for you.
G+B

What a roller coaster ride you are on Mildew, keep your strength up, you will need it for when Hans comes home.

It must seem like an endless haul for you Milly and a long road ahead but if Wolfgang is confident then there is plenty of hope and you will get him back!
Now you need to take care of yourself. Go and see your GP if your not sleeping. You must get sleep and you have to put yourself first. Hans has a team of people looking after him, all you have is Heike and us nutcases.
